Village Trashes Refuse Rates; New Rates Take Effect Aug. 1

Glen Ellyn residents will see changes to their trash bills starting in August. The Village of Village Board approved a new contract with Republic Services in June and the new rates begin Aug. 1. 

Residents won’t see much change in regard to services. The Village said services that will continue include single day collection on Monday, an unlimited collection event biannually, weekly yard waste collection and monthly branch and brush services.

In addition, the new contract will give residents the option to purchase a reduced rate leaf sticker for leaf disposal in October and November, according to the Village of Glen Ellyn.

The new leaf stickers will cost $1.50 in October and November. The sticker is only available for use with a 33-gallon kraft paper bag. The Village noted that leaves may continue to be disposed of with yard waste stickers and reusable containers from April to November. 

Rates for refuse disposal and recycling services include a base rate and supplemental costs for other services such as branch and brush, clean sweep, and administration, the Village of Glen Ellyn said in a news release.

Residents will find supplemental costs in the August bill will include a new allocation for the replacement of toters, a revised administrative cost, and a recycling credit. 

To encourage recycling, the Village will credit accounts based on recycling revenues the Village received the previous year. The credit from August 2012 to July 2013 will be $2.15 each month. The credit will be adjusted annually.
