Downtown Glen Ellyn Earns Historic Designation

An Illinois organization elected the village of Glen Ellyn's downtown for a historic designation.

Downtown Glen Ellyn is being honored for its historic relevance and now is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Illinois Historic Sites Advisory Council elected that Glen Ellyn’s downtown be listed on the register.

“A listing in the National Register is a great honor as it serves to underscore and enhance Glen Ellyn's rich history by calling attention to its wonderful architectural heritage and its record of historic preservation within the village,” a news release from the village said.

The village’s downtown joins Stacy’s Tavern Museum on the historic register, according to the village.

The new designation will more closely conjoin the village’s downtown and Glen Ellyn’s Main Street Residential Historic District, which is located from Cottage Avenue to Hawthorne Boulevard, the village said in a news release.
