Countdown Begins As Owners Prep For The Fresh Market's Glen Ellyn Opening

No firm opening date is set, but the store's opening is coming soon, according to company officials.

Glen Ellyn’s newest grocery store, The Fresh Market, is slated to open after the specialty grocer opens its Lincolnshire location in June, according to company officials. A firm opening date has yet to be revealed.

In November, the Glen Ellyn Village Board approved the $12 million development, which brings the high-end grocery store to town.

“We are excited about our continued expansion in the Midwest, and in Illinois in particular,” Rob Koch, vice president of real estate for The Fresh Market, said in a news release. “We look forward to building on the success of our other Chicago metropolitan area stores, and to providing customers in Glen Ellyn with the same quality products and excellent customer service.”

The Fresh Market was founded in 1982 and is a specialty grocery retailer, according to the company. The Fresh Market’s focus is on providing high-quality products in a unique and inviting atmosphere with a high level of customer service. It operates 131 stores in 25 states, primarily located in the Southeast, Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, and Northeast, with plans for continued expansion throughout the country.

The redevelopment agreement with Opus Development Company, which is bringing The Fresh Market to town in the former Packey Webb site, included a reimbursement to the developer for public improvements made to Taft Avenue and a 10-year sales tax incentive, Glen Ellyn Patch reported in April.

The agreement also includes a sales tax sharing arrangement, in which the Village will receive the first 10 percent of all sales tax revenue and the remaining 90 percent will be split 60/40, Patch has reported.

The opening of The Fresh Market comes as a Mariano’s Fresh Market is under construction in neighboring Wheaton. Mariano’s is also known as a specialty grocery store.

According to a news release from The Fresh Market, it has built its reputation on being an extraordinary food destination.

“From bountiful produce and a full-service meat counter to convenient prepared foods and an in-store bakery, customers will discover that our stores are committed to variety, freshness and value as well as superior customer service,” Craig Carlock, the company’s president and CEO said in the release.
