A jackpot of $580 million is up for grabs to one lucky winner of the Powerball Lottery drawing.

The Powerball lottery drawing took place Wednesday night at 9:59 p.m. Central Time. And, millions of people around the country were waiting to see if they hit it big and could quit their job and buy their own personal island along with cars, homes and anything else $580 million might buy. ABC News reported lottery officials expected to sell more than 105,000 tickets every minute before the drawing. Despite the long odds for the big jackpot, the overall odds of winning a prize are considerably better at 1 in 55. The Illinois Lottery's Powerball jackpot is set to reach $500 million, and the tickets are selling at a "blistering" pace, according to the Chicago Tribune.  About $200,000 in lottery tickets were sold in just one 30-minute period Tuesday, according to the Trib, and sales are expected to peak as the Powerball drawing draws closer.  It's the largest jackpot in Powerball history.
