Glen Ellyn Searching for New Assistant Village Manager

The village is looking to fill a position that will be left vacant when a long-time employee retires.

The Village of Glen Ellyn is in the process of searching for an Assistant Village Manager, a position that pays roughly $110,000 a year — dependent upon experience. The position will be left vacant when long-time Assistant Village Manager Dana Marie Izzo retires in March. The village hopes to fill the position by that time. The village has two assistants to the village manager; one who handles administrative affairs and the other has typically managed human resources. As the village seeks a new hire, it has tweaked the position's responsiblities, which will be expanded moving forward, said Village Manager Mark Franz.  “We know exactly what the position will be, HR, IT and oversee communications as well a variety of other special projects …

Village Officials Estimate Storm Damage at $300,000

The freak storm that hit Glen Ellyn in early July damaged roughly 70 trees in town. The village is still assessing the costs from the storm.

The Village of Glen Ellyn is still in the process of assessing the amount of damage and the costs incurred related to the freak storm that hit earlier in July, but costs associated with the storm could reach $300,000. Public Works employees have been working to clear debris ever since the storm hit and the storm taxed the village’s resources, according to Glen Ellyn officials. While the village did receive a thank you note from one grateful resident for the hard work public works employees put in to clean up after the storm, one resident concerned about slow response spoke out at the Village Board meeting Monday night. The resident said that though she never called about having branches and tree limbs removed from her parkway, she …

Glen Ellyn Terminates Village Forester Position

Peggy Drescher worked as the forester for 23 years. Her duties will be divided among other employees of the public works department.

In part of restructuring the village public works department, Glen Ellyn officials terminated the village forester position.  On Wednesday, Village Manager Mark Franz issued a release announcing the village was terminating Peggy Drescher, the part-time village forester who worked for the village for 23 years. Drescher worked an average of 25 hours per week earning an annual salary of $65,000. “Peggy did a great job in her role as forester and we really appreciate all she did for the people of Glen Ellyn,” Franz said. Drescher’s work will be divided among different employees of the Public Works division. Her salary will also be used to offset organizational changes in the department. Public Works Director Julius Hansen said the elimination …

This is absolutely terrible news. A forester is very different from an arborist. As we know, arborists deal with tree trimming and removal--with emphasis on removal for sure. A forester sees to the growth and development of the community forest, planning for the future, balancing the big picture, not just the matter of a fallen branch. Ms. Dreschler was a terirific asset to our Village. She …   more ›

Village Trustees Vote to Hire New Village Manager

Mark Franz's first official day is July 12.

Glen Ellyn Village Board Trustees unanimously approved Mark Franz to serve as Glen Ellyn's new village manager. Franz comes to Glen Ellyn with 15 years of municipal management service and currently serves as Homewood's village manager.  "This process was so gratifying and we truly believe we've got the best of the best here," Village President Mark Pfefferman said of the recent hire.  Of the 82 applicants, Mark Franz, Bryon Vana and David Forrest were the three remaining contenders before Monday night's vote. It was Franz's eye for economic development and accountable but fair management style that made him the front-runner, according to Pfefferman.   "I just cannot speak to how excited I am in assisting with moving the village forward and…

Residents Help Choose New Village Manager

A town-hall meeting introduces residents to potential village managers.

Three individuals are vying for the spot as Glen Ellyn's Village Manager.  About 35 residents participated in Tuesday's town-hall event by asking questions and listening to presentations from village manager candidates.  Village board members were in attendance to help conduct the informal interviews of the three remaining potential hires.  Of the original 82 applicants, Mark Franz, Bryon Vana, and David Forrest were the three remaining contenders. Voorhees Associates, a public management recruitment firm, conducted the search for the village and narrowed the 82 down to six potential hires. The trustees then whittled it down to the three remaining candidates. Each candidate answered three initial questions including some background …
