Santa Spends an Evening in Glen Ellyn

Christmas tree lighting highlights the start of the season

The basket on the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Co. snorkel swung closer and closer to the top of the tree as Santa's hand reached over the side.  As dozens and dozens of flashes went off, you could almost hear old St. Nick chuckling as he pulled his hand away before touching the star that would light the tree and signal the official start of the Christmas season.  One more stretch of Santa's hand, though, and this time the tree came to life in a blaze of light! Santa then proceeded to the fire station, where children waited patiently in line to let Santa know they have been good this year, and could he please pick up this toy or that when he stopped by on Christmas Eve.  The tree lighting and Santa visit were all part of the Glen Ellyn …

Holiday Walk 2012: Tree Lighting, Santa Sightings and Carriage Riding

The annual Holiday Walk being held Friday will include events at the Glen Ellyn Public Library, the tree lighting ceremony and visits from Santa Claus.

Downtown Glen Ellyn will feel like a Currier & Ives painting – minus the snow – Friday, as the annual Holiday Walk kicks off the holiday season. From free horse and trolley rides to the lighting of the Christmas tree, downtown Glen Ellyn will be filled with festivities. The annual Holiday Walk will be held Nov. 23 and the theme this year is “Winter Wonderland,” according to the Glen Ellyn Chamber of Commerce. Shops and restaurants throughout the downtown will be open late and offering all the good girls, boys and adults special holiday treats. The main event of the Holiday Walk will be the arrival of Santa Claus and the lighting of the Christmas tree. Everyone is welcome to join Santa at 6 p.m. at Main Street and Crescent Boulevard to …

This year stop by the Glen Ellyn Sweet Shop and The Patio of Glen Ellyn. We have free hot chocolate and candy plus $1 pizza slices. There will be bean bags to play and chalk for the kids to draw while our light show flashes to music.
