District 87 team members will be recognized at a May 3 honors ceremony for their work to support public education.
From District 87: The Illinois Chapter of the National School Public Relations Association (INSPRA) has chosen a Glenbard South teacher, a Glenbard East parent, several Glenbard High School District 87 representatives and community members as recipients of the INSPRA Distinguished Service Award. The INSPRA Distinguished Service Awards recognize people who work tirelessly to support public education, according to District 87. Glenbard East parent Dawn Zatt earned an Award of Excellence in the parent category. Glenbard South science teacher Rob Lang earned an Award of Merit in the certified staff category. Glenbard District 87 to host presentation on experiences in other cultures Tuesday, April 2.
From District 87: David Larson, superintendent in Glenbard Township High School District 87, and David Gorman, assistant public works director in Lombard, share something in common: They’ve both spent years in other cultures before assuming leadership roles in our community. Larson spent his early childhood among primitive, stone-age people in Indonesia and his high school years in Malaysia. Gorman spent three years in a mountainous village in southern Africa and continues to return there. Both were immersed in indigenous cultures and they promote the importance of leaving one’s comfort zone. The result is to gain new perspectives, connections and purpose. District 87 enters agreement for event streaming, digital and scoreboard ads for its four high schools.
Glenbard District 87 has entered an agreement with PlayOn! Sports after its agreement with iHigh for advertising online and on LED boards fell through, District 87 officials said earlier this month. According to the Daily Herald, the District 87 school board voted last fall to approve an eight-year agreement with iHigh for coordination of advertising sponsorships for eight scoreboards at the four district high schools. But since then the company has indicated they don't sell scoreboard ads. iHigh's COO Black Brickman told the Herald selling scoreboard ads is not part of the company's business model. The agreement with iHigh ends June 30. District 87 will pay $8,000 for the 30-month contract with PlayOn! Sports. The district will have …

Glenbard High School District 87 will host its next parenting series event with INTOUCH (Illinois Network to Organize the Understanding of Community Health), "Creativity—What is It, Why Do We Need It and How Do We Get it Back," with Steven Fischer 12 p.m. Thursday, April 4 at Glenbard South High School. The interactive workshop will focus on the nature of and thought process of creativity. Fischer will discuss ways to nurture creativity and unique expression, and the role of risk-taking in the creative process, according to a news release from District 87. Illinois State Board of Education puts Glenbard Disrict 87 at top of list in financial profiles.
The Illinois State Board of Education released its annual Financial Profile of the state's public schools, recognizing Glenbard District 87 as one of 562 schools with Financial Recognition status, the highest category of financial strength. The number of school districts in Financial Recognition dropped from 670 last year to this year's 562 or 65 percent of the state's 865 districts. School districts in this category require little or no review or involvement by the Illinois State Board of Education unless requested by the district, according to a District 87 news release. Glenbard District 87 proposes to shorten class periods by two minutes to give students more time to seek help during an extended lunch period.
Glenbard District District 87 officials on Monday reviewed proposed changes to its school day schedule with plans to cut class time by two minutes to give students more time to study and seek help during lunch. The changes include a move from 50- to 48-minute periods and an extended lunch period with academic support. The extended lunch period would allow students to join study groups, make up work in the test center, meet with guidance counselors, attend study skills sessions and participate in AP study sessions, according to a District 87 memo. Terri Hanrahan and Loukia Mastrodimos leave top positions at Glenbard South High School for new roles in District 87 and District 99.
Glenbard South High School will have new leadership next year as Principal Terri Hanrahan and Assistant Principal Loukia Mastrodimos move on to different roles. Hanrahan's and Mastrodimos' resignations from their current positions in Glenbard District 87 will be effective June 30, according to the District 87 personnel report for the March 4 board meeting. Hanrahan will begin a new role in District 87 as the district's teaching and learning coordinator and Title I facilitator starting July 1.
