Hold the Flour! Glen Ellyn's Flour + Wine to Change Name

In July, the downtown dining spot will officially change its name to fire + wine to avoid going to court with a California restaurant.

Seeking to avoid a court battle and keep its focus on the food, Glen Ellyn’s well-known dining establishment flour + wine will soon have a new name. The restaurant, known for its pizza, pasta and, according to diners, consistently good food, will soon change its name to fire + wine. A California restaurant filed a complaint recently claiming ownership of a name similar to flour + wine, according to the owners. To avoid litigation and what might be a long, drawn out court battle the owners will change the name, effective July 1, shortly after its first anniversary. “Since we started this fire on the West coast, we think it’s appropriate to rename ourselves fire + wine,” said flour + wine co-owner Michael Vai. “We can spend the next 18 …

Horse Trough in Downtown Glen Ellyn a 'Beloved' Landmark: Preservationists

Citizens for Glen Ellyn Preservation against idea to replace 1907 horse trough, a historic landmark, with a new structure as part of downtown planning.

Glen Ellyn citizen preservationists are against a preliminary idea to replace the 106-year-old horse trough in the center of downtown Glen Ellyn with something new as a result of ongoing planning for downtown improvements.  A recent draft study of downtown Glen Ellyn included ideas to change the existing streetscape with new trees, lighting, permeable pavers and an obelisk-shaped structure in place of the horse trough in the center of Main Street at Crescent Boulevard. Originally erected in 1907, the horse trough was designated a village landmark in 2012. Made of cast iron, the trough was donated to the village by William C. Newton to provide water for horses and dogs on the town’s main street, according to a news release from the Citizens…

The trough gets a new, safer, much more luxurious and prominent home, and it opens up the intersection. Why am I not running this village? BTW, just to get all of you even more whipped up, there is talk of replacing the …   more ›
