A grand jury has indicted a Lisle man on telephone harassment and aggravated battery charges stemming from an October incident involving a high school volleyball game. John Kasik is accused of leaving threatening messages for his daughter's volleyball coach at Lisle High School, and later bumping the school's athletic director during a meeting. Kasik is free on $300,000 bail with a scheduled court appearance - at which he will likely be arraigned - on Nov. 19. The former Naperville Library Board president charged earlier this year with stealing nearly $26,000 from an area homeowners association recently pleaded guilty to a felony theft charge. A Willowbrook man charged in the shooting death of a Hinsdale South High School graduate has pleaded not guilty. Juan Cuellar denied a five-count murder indictment during an Oct. 22 hearing. He remains held without bond in DuPage County Jail. Prosecutors allege Cuellar drove up on 18-year-old Joshua Holmes as he walked near the Lake Hinsdale Terrace apartments and fired six times, hitting Holmes who later died. Cuellar is scheduled to return to court Nov. 27. Cuellar's mother, 42-year-old Elva Hernandez, also pleaded not guilty this week to obstruction of justice charges. She concealed the gun Cuellar used in the shooting, according to the indictment against her. Court records show Hernandez wanted her bail reduced to $30,000, but jail …

An 18-year-old Bellwood man has pleaded not guilty to attempted predatory sex assault of a child and other charges in connection to an August incident in an Elmhurst park. Prosecutors allege Nikolai Anderson, who also is charged with sexual exploitation of a child and indecent solicitation of a child, exposed himself to two girls, ages 12 and 14, and asked one of the girls to perform a sex act. Anderson denied the charges during a Sept. 26 hearing. He returns to court in November. A McCullom Lake woman has been placed on 30 months of probation after her conviction on a charge neglecting her 82-year-old mother from Naperville in 2009. Sentencing has been set for the Elmhurst mother who pleaded guilty to aggravated battery to a child in connection to a June 2011 incident involving her son. Cheryl Luchetta had been charged with attempted murder after her she awoke to find her son unresponsive inside their Elmhurst home last year. Police and prosecutors said Luchetta drugged the boy before cutting her own throat. Luchetta pleaded guilty in July to the aggravated battery charge in a deal with prosecutors. She faces between six and 30 years on the Class X felony at her sentencing, which is scheduled for Sept. 24, according to court documents. Darien: Following after her husband's plea with prosecutors, Georgina Burr pleaded guilty Aug. 27 to heroin possession in connection to their Christmas Eve arrests at a Darien gas station. Georgina Burr was sentence to 82 days in DuPage County Jail, receiving 41 days credit, and placed on two years of probation centered on drug treatment. She must complete evaluations and counseling as part of her deal with prosecutors, according to court records. Police arrested Georgina and Andrew Burr, both of Walnut, Ill., after a witness reported the couple left their children in a running car. Both entered the women's bathroom where they shot heroin, authorities have said. Georgina Burr's also pleaded to a misdemeanor count of child endangerment. …

DUPAGE: Darien: - Ali Akel, charged with aggravated battery and a hate crime, is supposed to be in court on Aug. 29, but records show he still has a warrant out. Akel allegedly beat a black man after yelling racial slurs on June 20 at a gas station in Woodridge. Downers Grove: - Andrew Walczak, accused of at least one recent burglary in Downers Grove, is scheduled for an Aug. 29 hearing that is likely to be his arraignment (if he has been indicted). On July 28, a witness reported a man carrying a gun while trying to burglarize cars in the area near the Denburn Woods.
