As you likely know by now, what could be the heaviest snow of the year to date is on the way to Glen Ellyn and the Chicago area, set to arrive Thursday night. Patch has The Weather Channel's app for following the storm, including radar animations of the progress. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for DuPage County. The advisory is in effect from 9 p.m. Thursday until 6 p.m. Friday. Accumulations of three to six inches of snow are possible. Ice and wind gusts are possible. Keep checking back, and be safe!

Alberta clipper-type system moving into the Chicago area tonight, with snow expected into the morning.
If you like snow, smile, if now, frown. Regardless, it looks like we’re going to need our shovels come Monday morning. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for snow beginning at 10 p.m. Sunday through midday Monday, with 3 to 5 inches of snow expected along a line north of Rockford to Chicago, which puts Glen Ellyn close to the line of greatest snowfall. Light snow showers may continue through the afternoon. The weather service says the storm system is well-organized and reminiscent of an Alberta clipper, a rapidly moving low-pressure system out of Canada that sometimes affect the upper Midwest and the Great Lakes region. Freezing rain mixed with sleet is expected to arrive in the area Sunday morning. A freezing rain advisory is in effect from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday night.
UPDATED: Jan. 27, 9:50 a.m. The deep freeze is on its way and we aren’t talking about temperatures. A freezing rain advisory is in effect from 9 a.m. Sunday morning until 4 p.m. Sunday evening for DuPage County. Ice in excess of a quarter of an inch is possible, according to the National Weather Service. A winter storm watch was initially in effect, but the weather service updated its weather outlook Saturday afternoon.
