Water Main Break Causes Partial Geneva Road Closure Wednesday

A small section of the road is expected to be closed from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

A water main break at in the 500 block of Geneva Road has caused a partial closure of the road to traffic, according to the village. The main break took place at 529 Geneva Road. As a result, the outside east bound curb lane of Geneva Road is closed to traffic starting just east of Highland Avenue diverting traffic around the work zone for 300 feet.  The time of lane closure and water service disruption is estimated to be limited to 9 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Village of Glen Ellyn.

85 Residents Without Water Due to Water Main Breaks

Five water main breaks occurred early this morning in Glen Ellyn.

A fluctuation in water pressure caused five water mains to break this morning throughout Glen Ellyn, leaving 85 residents without water, according to the Public Works Department. Between 3:30 and 5:30 a.m. the two pumping stations in Glen Ellyn received water from the DuPage Water Commission that was spiking in pressure, according to Dave Buckley, assistant public works director. The water pressure in the lines increased by almost 50 percent during the two hours of fluctuation. Typically, the water comes in from the DuPage Water Commission at 55-60 psi (pounds per square inch). But early this morning the pressure spiked and continually fluctuated between 80-100 psi, according to Buckley.   "It's hard for our machinery to deal with that," …
