To the editor: For several years the Milton Township Republican Committeeman and friends have volunteered to improve our township for our families and businesses. In 2013, we plan on building upon this tradition by cleaning a portion of the Prairie Path and raising money for those in need to benefit the Milton Township Food Pantry. First, on April 27th, 2013, the Milton Township Republican’s and friends will gather to clean a section of the Illinois Prairie Path. We will meet at the intersection of President and Crescent Street in Wheaton, at 9:30 a.m. Second, on May 18th the organization will have volunteers raising money for the Milton Township Food Pantry at the Wheaton Farmers Market and Taste of Glen Ellyn. During these tough …

The Glen Ellyn Children's Resource Center is hoping the community will help support its efforts toward securing grant funding through the Chase Community Giving Awards.
If there are two things nonprofits are always in need of they are volunteers and funding. That is no different for the Glen Ellyn Children’s Resource Center. The nonprofit has recently expanded its literacy efforts in Glen Ellyn and would like to grow its program to offer even more assistance to children in need in the community. To grow the program more funding is required. With nothing to lose, other than a chance at some grant funding, the organization is in the running for a Chase Community Giving Award. If the literacy nonprofit gets enough votes to stay in the race, it could receive anywhere between $10,000-to-$250,000. All that residents need to do is vote. Voting is ongoing through Sept. 17. The resource center provides an after …

A dozen Glen Ellyn restaurants will donate 10 percent of their receipts today to the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry.
So much goes on during the summer, with people vacationing and parents running the kids around to activities, nonprofits see a decline in donations as people direct their energy elsewhere. At the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry, donations definitely drop during summer, but though things are a little sparser at the pantry, the organization is always prepared to help those in need, according to an official with the nonprofit. Wednesday, locals have a way to give back to the organization while enjoying a meal at their favorite restaurant. Diners can “Take a Bite Out of Hunger” while eating at participating restaurants, which will donate 10 percent of their receipts Wednesday to the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry. The food pantry is located within Grace …

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs, relax, and hang out for the afternoon. “What started in 2009 as a small, block-party-like BBQ contest for a bunch of amateurs with a love of BBQ and delusions of grandeur has grown to a full blown event in downtown Glen Ellyn,” says Bob Solak, Bags Tournament Coordinator for the 2012 BBQ. Both amateur and …

Alicia Rasnic began volunteering with Bridge Communities five years ago. She recently helped supervise the creation of a new garden at a Bridge-owned apartment complex.
Alicia Rasnic loves to garden. Her experience out in the garden played a key role in a new project Bridge Communities started earlier this summer. Rasnic, a long-time Glen Ellyn resident, began volunteering with Bridge Communities five years ago. She learned about the nonprofit from a friend who invited her to its annual Garden Party. “Because I was retired, I wanted something to get involved with, and Bridge seemed to be a really good opportunity,” Rasnic said. When she signed up to volunteer with Bridge Communities, Rasnic was asked to participate on the development committee doing outreach in the community to raise awareness of the nonprofit and secure donations and support from area businesses. Over the years she has participated in a…

Btw, I have lots of stuff like this, if the "Real Voters" in Milton Township should become aware of the true nature of Township Government and the people behind it - it could become like the Pitch fork and torch time when hundreds show up to the Township HALL (which leaks like a sieve thanks to the no bid renovation by the Chris Hiedorn). and all start to question the management maleficence of …   more ›
