Longtime Glen Ellyn resident, Carrie Jo Howe, will celebrate the publication of her first book at a book signing at 8 p.m. Thursday at The Bookstore.
Raising a family and being a mom and wife is not a perfect life. Motherhood is challenging and can be a lot of hard work. Yet, even in the most difficult and messiest of situations, Carrie Jo Howe has managed to find humor. Over the years, Howe, a Glen Ellyn resident for 20 years, has taken note of the funny situations she’s encountered from dating to raising her family. Now, those stories have been compiled into a book. An after-hours book-signing will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday at The Bookstore to celebrate the publication of her book, Motherhood is NOT for Babies: A Story of Dating, Mating and Procreating. The compilation of essays is meant to be funny and not mean, Howe said, adding the stories are based on “the plight we women face …

Local author Paul L. Corona will be signing his new book Saturday at The Bookstore from 1-3 p.m.
In his day job Paul L. Corona’s goal is to help others improve their performance at work. As a result, those he works with learn how to perform better at work, which tends to overflow into a better home and personal life. Corona is a full-time director of learning and organizational development at Northwestern University. With all his years of experience and time spent helping others become the best they can be, he began considering pursuing a dream of his own: writing a book. Corona’s book, The Wisdom of Walk-Ons, shares the stories of college football players who were unrecruited walk-ons. It touches on their successes and achievements and uses stories…

Glen Ellyn resident shared stories from his recently published book at The Bookstore.
At least twice a year, Glen Ellyn resident Lee Mulder travels to Uganda to help the children orphaned by AIDS. During his time in Africa he gained a new perspective on life and wanted to share what he learned from the people of Uganda in his book, "They Call Me Mzee." His book is part memoir, travel log and investigative report. He delves into explaining how the AIDS epidemic impacted Uganda, and how one Ugandan president was able to curb the spread of the deadly disease. Although Uganda has been labeled a success story in the fight against AIDS there's been a lot lost in its wake. On Saturday, Mulder shared his travel stories during a book signing at The Bookstore in downtown Glen Ellyn. He explained how his mission has become much …

The Bookstore can write its own story about surviving the turbulent changes in the publishing industry.
Jane Stroh is passionate about books. She enjoys reading them, handling them and talking about them with other readers. It’s that enthusiasm for the written word that she abundantly shares with her customers as the owner of The Bookstore, 475 N. Main St. Stroh has managed the store since 1997. Vic and Rosamund DuJardin, the store’s original owners, founded the store a few years before 1960. Rosamund was connected to the publishing industry as a teen fiction author. Before Stroh owned the store, she joined its staff in 1985 under owners Jack and Marguerite Rice, who managed it from 1973 to 1987. Stroh bought it from Barbara and Dwight Reed, who owned it from 1987 to 1997. Stroh explained that the building which houses the store dates back …
