Spotlight on Anima Singers at Lyric Opera, Mag Mile
Some of Glen Ellyn's Anima Singers can be seen performing at the Civic Opera House, and others will usher in the Christmas season Nov. 20 during the annual parade on Chicago's Michigan Avenue.
When the curtain rises at the Lyric Opera of Chicago this month for "A Midsummer Night's Dream," the focal point rests not on a strapping tenor or a dominant alto but on a forest of singing fairies. One of those fairies, Anna Stephan, 13, of Glen Ellyn, said that when she looks out on the sea of people at the theater, which seats more than 3,500, "I'm just like, 'Is this a dream? Is this really happening?'" Anna and the group of two dozen fairies, ages 9 to 13, have flitted into the spotlight, literally, because they're members of the Glen Ellyn-based Anima: Young Singers of Greater Chicago, formerly known as the Glen Ellyn Children's Chorus.
