From the Village of Glen Ellyn Attention Shutterbugs! The bi-annual Glen Ellyn Photography Contest is upon us again. Every Spring and Fall Glen Ellyn residents and students have the opportunity to submit up to five photographs for consideration in the photography contest. Enter your photos that best exemplify the “Spirit of Glen Ellyn” and you could win a $20 Chamber of Commerce gift certificate! There are two categories for the contest: Youth (ages 17 and below) and Adult (ages 18 and above). The selected photos are prominently displayed on the Village’s website and Facebook page. In addition, the photographers are recognized on the website and in the Village’s eNews and quarterly newsletter. The Spring deadline for submissions is July 31…

Erik Peterson will have an exhibition of his works in the Willis Tower next month, but before then his photographs will be shown in a special event Saturday in Glen Ellyn.
Erik R. Peterson started taking photos as a kid, snapping photos on family vacations. Then, while in college he entered his first photo contest. For years now he’s been pursuing his photography passion. Next Month, Peterson’s photographs, Scenes of the Chicago River, will be on display in the Metropolitan Club at the Willis Tower in Chicago. But, before that showing begins, Glen Ellyn residents may enjoy his works during a special one-day Pop-Up Gallery Preview being held Saturday in the empty storefront next to Costello Jewelers in Downtown Glen Ellyn. Al Lewek will begin offering photo restoration and presentation through a new business venture.
Long-time Glen Ellyn business owner Al Lewek is taking on a new business enterprise. The professional photographer, who owns Lewek Photography & Frame Studio, is announcing his new venture, Vintage Images. In 1978, Lewek opened his current business, which offers a variety of services to clients, including portraits and framing. With his new venture he will be specializing in copy, restoration and presentation of old family photos, slides, negatives and documents, Lewek said in a news release. With more than 34 years experience in the field, restoring photos was always part of his business, but Lewek said he wanted to place more emphasis on restoring old pictures because so many people have them. I was a mall photographer addict until I got scared straight.
It’s the time of the year for portrait sittings. My daughter’s school picture has already been purchased, taken, and received. In that order. I hate having to commit to buying it before I see it. I’ve learned by now to always go for the bottom-of-the-line $14 package of a class photo and eight wallets. And I could still wallpaper a small bathroom with the leftover wallets that I’ve collected. School pictures really have no chance of turning out well, for the obvious reason that I am not present for them. See, I’m kind of a crazed-lunatic-stage-mom about portrait sittings. Think Toddlers & Tiaras minus the false eyelashes. I’ve been hauling my daughter’s tiny butt to JC Penney and (when I’m feeling particularly nutty) Picture People since …
