Community Invited to 75th Celebration for the Lake Ellyn Boathouse Sunday

The Lake Ellyn Boathouse opened for use on Nov. 12, 1937. The Glen Ellyn Park District is hosting a celebration Sunday.

Residents who visit the Lake Ellyn Boathouse this weekend will be reliving some nostalgia from the 1930s during an open house celebration recognizing its 75th anniversary. The boathouse was first opened for use on Nov. 12, 1937 and to celebrate the occasion, the Glen Ellyn Park District will be holding an event for the community Sunday. The open house will include a live performance of a Dick Tracy radio program, and screening of the 1937 film Make Way for Tomorrow, which will help provide a sense of what life was like when the building first opened in Glen Ellyn. Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company Holds Annual Open House Saturday

Sparky the Fire Dog will be on hand Saturday to meet with children as the fire company holds its annual open house in advance of Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 7 - 13.

Sparky the Fire Dog will be on hand Saturday as the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Co. holds its annual open house and safety expo to kick off Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 7-13. Children will have the opportunity to meet with Sparky and participate in a number of activities that are planned. This year’s theme for Fire Prevention Week is “Always Have Two Ways Out.”  During the open house children will have the chance to dress up like firefighters and to practice STOP, DROP and ROLL, according to Craig Eldridge, public information officer for the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Co.  In addition, a safety trailer will be on site, awards will be given for the fire company’s poster contest and treats will be handed out. From Glenbard District 87 The staff at Glenbard South invites parents and guardians to the annual Parents' Night on Wednesday. The evening will begin at 6 p.m. with a presentation by South's counselors about the Choices program geared toward each grade level. Later in the evening, parents and guardians will have an opportunity to follow their students' schedule during a typical school day in a condensed format. During each 10-minute period, the teacher will discuss the content and organization of the course. Find more details about South's Parents' Night. Willowbrook Wildlife Center searches for wildlife lovers.

If you were not among the 115 people who attended the DuPage Forest Preserve Open House, you haven’t lost your chance. On Saturday, January 15 115 people walked in off the street to learn more about volunteer opportunities within the DuPage Forest Preserve District, including the Willowbrook Wildlife Center,525 S. Park Blvd. Other programs included were the Danada Equestrian Center in Wheaton, Fullersburg Woods Nature Center in Oakbrook, Klein Creek Farm in Winfield, Mayslake Peabody Estate in Oak Brook, and St. James Farm in Warrenville.  The Open House event takes place once per year every January, and is aimed at getting potential volunteers through the door to educate them on opportunities within the district. “We aim this particular …
