Be aware of what alcohol does to you body, make plans to avoid drinking and driving.
It’s the end of the 2012 and the start of 2013, and parties are one of the most popular ways to send out the old and ring in the New Year. But it also can be a dangerous time on the roadways, which is why police departments typically beef up patrols on the holiday in an attempt to head off potentially deadly results of mixing drinking and driving. Drinking and driving carries consequences, but so does drinking even if you are not driving. Even a small amount of alcohol can affect your equilibrium, but it also can play on your emotions, making you giggle, weep, angry. It also can impair your judgment, leading you to make decisions you may regret in the morning. But alcohol affects the whole body, even in the smallest of doses, writes Sarah …
Alcohol will affect people differently depending on a number of factors, but how much you drink plays a big role.
Starting the New Year on the right foot without a nagging hangover requires a little bit of moderation and knowing when too much is too much. For partygoers around Glen Ellyn enjoying those holiday spirits may be fun at the time, overdoing it with the booze may make drinkers wish they could go back in time and change their plans. The DuPage County Health Department has offered a number of tips to make sure that ringing in the New Year doesn’t mean starting it with your head in the toilet. During our younger years, we made late dinner reservations and stayed out until the wee hours of the morning. As we got older, we started spending the evening in, with an intimate dinner, a good movie, a bottle of champagne and a "Happy New Year!" at the stroke of midnight. When the kids were babies, we'd hope the noise outside didn't wake them. And when they got a little older, we'd let them stay up until 9 or 10 o'clock for our own family "Happy New Year" yelling and confetti, funny hats and cranking noise-makers. Now, we're just happy if we can stay awake until midnight. What kind of mom are you? Take our Patch poll and share your favorite New Year's Eve memories in the comments field.
