Lake Ellyn Boathouse not affected by master plan in 2013, open for summer rentals.
While Lake Ellyn master plan improvements include plans to revamp and restore the Lake Ellyn Boathouse to it's 1937 design, it'll be open for normal business and rentals in 2013, according to a message on the Glen Ellyn Park District website. "The recently approved master plan for Lake Ellyn Park does not call for changes to the boathouse in 2013 and will not affect operations or rentals," the message reads. The boathouse closes mid-December through the end of February and reopens for rentals the first weekend of March. The facility can be rented for weddings and other private parties with seating for up to 120 people. Residents viewed the first initial sketches of possible improvements at Lake Ellyn Park and offered feedback to officials and consultants.
A large number of residents voiced opposition to using portions of Lake Ellyn Park to create more off-street parking during a meeting Monday night to discuss preliminary sketches for the Lake Ellyn Park Master Plan. The meeting held at the park’s boathouse had a strong turnout from residents concerned about the park’s future. More than 50 people attended the meeting. Parking was just one of the areas touched on during the two-hour meeting, but it raised the most concerns and garnered the most feedback. The Glen Ellyn Park District hired the firm of Conservation Design Forum and Farr Associates to help it address a number of issues including landscaping, hydrology of the lake, parking and access, recreational use and the boathouse. A celebration of sight and sound at Lake Ellyn Park.
On a beautiful late August weekend, the Glen Ellyn Lions Club, in partnership with Community Bank, once again sponsored the Glen Ellyn Festival of the Arts, held again at Lake Ellyn Park. More than 70 artists were on hand to display their works, which included paintings in oil and watercolor, photography, jewelry, pottery and much more. Local photographer Erik Peterson, who began his photography career with images of Glen Ellyn, was one of the local favorites attending. The Lions also sponsored Paint for Fun, a supervised area for budding artists to show their creativity. The Lions also took this opportunity to provide free hearing screening for attendees.
