No Injuries in Shady Lane House Fire

A single family home in Wheaton was returned to its owners Monday night after a fire on the first floor.

No one was injured in a fire at a Wheaton home Monday night, officials said. The Wheaton Fire Department responded to an unoccupied home at 1383 E. Shady Lane in the northeast area of Wheaton around 7:45 p.m. Monday.  Crews brought the fire on the first floor of the home under control within about 15 minutes, according to a news release from the fire department. The basement and second floor sustained water and smoke damage. According to a dispatch report around 8:52 p.m. Monday, the fire was in the back in the back of the house.  The building was turned back over to the property owner Monday night. Officials from the Wheaton Fire Department and the DuPage County Fire Investigation Taskforce are conducting an investigation as the cause of …

No Injuries Saturday in Highland Avenue Fire

Damage was contained Saturday afternoon when a fire broke out in an attic in a Highland Avenue home.

An electrical fire Saturday afternoon that started in an attic remains under investigation, according to fire officials. Members of the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Co. responded to the fire at 4:43 p.m. Saturday in the 900 block of Highland Avenue. Upon arrival, the first crew of firefighters determined a fire had started in an outlet and may still be burning, Lt. Craig Eldridge, the public information officer for the fire company said in a news release issued Sunday morning. Firefighters found the fire was still burning in the attic, above the kitchen, he said. The ceiling was opened and the fire was quickly extinguished before it had the chance to spread. Newton Avenue Fire Leaves Home Uninhabitable

Glen Ellyn Fire Officials responded to a fire Monday morning in the 200 block of Newton Avenue. Officials said family and friends were assisting the family.

A house fire on Newton Avenue Monday morning has left a home uninhabitable but caused no injuries, fire officials said. The Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Co. responded to the fire in the 200 block of Newton Avenue at 7:03 a.m. and Chief Jeff Bucola was first to arrive. Upon arrival Bucola found flames showing through the roof of the residence, said Craig Eldridge, public information officer for the fire company. Crews from Glenside, Wheaton and York Center all helped the fire company put out the fire quickly, Eldridge said. Residents were able to safely evacuate and there were no injuries to the residents or fire fighters, he said. Hillcrest Avenue Fire Destroys Deck Monday Morning

A family was able to safely evacuate its home Monday morning in the 100 block of Hillcrest Avenue.

A small fire early Monday morning on Hillcrest Avenue destroyed a backyard deck on a home, but everyone inside the home was able to evacuate safely. At 1:49 a.m. the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Co. responded to a call of a fire at a home in the 100 block of Hillcrest Avenue, according to Craig Eldridge, public information officer for the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Co. The fire on the home's deck was quickly extinguished after crews arrived, Eldridge said. The family of four was asleep when the fire started, but awoke from the sound of the home’s smoke alarms. They were able to escape safely and spent the night with other family. The home received minor damage as a result of the deck fire, Eldridge said in the news release. The fire remains …

Two Weekend House Fires Cause Extensive Damage

Fire officials say no one was injured during Saturday's fires.

This weekend two house fires broke out on Saturday, June 16, causing multiple fire district units to assist in battling the blazes. According to fire officials, no one was injured during the two separate fires.    The first fire occured around 4:50 p.m. at a duplex in the 1100 block of Heather Lane. Neighbors said the homeowners were home at the time of the blaze but were able to make it out safely. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and under invesitgation, said Lombard Fire Department Assistant Chief Jerry Howell.  The second fire occured around 9:49 p.m. on Stacy Court in unincorporated Glen Ellyn at a single-family home. No Injuries Reported After Saturday's Second Glen Ellyn House Fire

This was the second fire crews responded to in Glen Ellyn on Saturday, June 16.

The Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Department responded to a single-family house fire on Stacy Court at 9:49 p.m. Saturday, June 16.  According to a statement from the fire department, the first responders reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the structure. The fire department called for backup and units from 11 surrounding towns responded to the fire. At least 40 firefighters were on the scene until 1 a.m. Sunday, June 17, according to Craig Eldridge, spokesperson, Lt. for the fire department. Eldridge said the home sustained "heavy damage" and no injuries were reported. Eldridge did not state if the homeowners were home at the time of the fire.
