Recent Glenbard West graduate Kathryn Pickett took fourth in the Young Women's heptathlon, a new event for her, at the USA Track & Field National Junior Olympic Championships.
Recent Glenbard West graduate Kathyrn Pickett keeps taking her versatility in track and field to another level. In May, Pickett became the Hilltoppers’ first girls track athlete to earn four all-state medals at one meet for top-nine finishes, taking second in long jump, third in the 100 meter high hurdles, fourth in the 300 low hurdles and eighth as part of the 400 relay. Her seven career all-state medals also are a program best. Pickett intends to improve those skills this summer with the Zephyrs Track Club in preparation for competing at Western Michigan University. Teammate Simone Bunsen suggested trying the heptathlon, an event the recent Lyons Township graduate plans on doing at the University of Wisconsin. “She just told me to sign …

The Glenbard West girls track team finished sixth at the Class 3A state meet thanks to Kathryn Pickett's performances and four all-state relay teams. Glenbard South's Samantha Howard earns all-state in the 2A discus.
Before this season, nobody in Glenbard West girls track history earned more than three career individual all-state medals. Senior Kathryn Pickett earned three Saturday at the Class 3A state meet at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston—and a fourth for leading off the 400-meter relay. That was only part of the greatest state meet appearance in the program's history. The 3,200, 400, 800 and 1,600 relays also earned all-state honors as the Hilltoppers finished sixth as a team with 31 points, just five points shy of a team trophy for a top-three finish. East St. Louis Senior (46 points) took first, followed by Lincoln-Way East (37 points) and Hoffman Estates (36 points). Pickett now finds herself on the school's record list for not one, …
