From District 87: All students must return their textbooks before the school year ends. Please follow the procedure noted below. Senior Returns: Freshman, sophomore, junior returns: If textbooks are not returned by the deadline, students will be charged a fine equal to the price of a new replacement textbook. The bookstore manager will assess the condition of books. If textbooks are damaged beyond repair, students will be charged a fine equal to the price of a new replacement textbook. Seven Glenbard West, South students to compete in IHSA state final this weekend.
Seven Glen Ellyn students have qualified for the IHSA boys gymnastics state finals this weekend at Lincoln-Way East. From Glenbard South, Paul Steger, Eugene Boguslavsky will compete for the title Saturday, coached by Steve Young. Coached by Frank Novakowski, Glenbard West students Joey Mandarino, Jon McNamara, Jonah Nguyen, Luke Skala and Perry Zumbrook will compete this weekend. Information courtesy of District 87.
Eleven Glen Ellyn girls badminton players will compete in the IHSA state final tournament this weekend.
Eleven Glen Ellyn badminton players have qualified to compete in the girls IHSA state final this weekend at Eastern Illinois University. Coached by Marc Woodcock, Glenbard South students Kathryn Washam, Julie Bedoy, Allie Spontak, Jennifer Lipa, Samantha Woldman will compete for the title this weekend. Glenbard West students, coached by Karen Judge, to compete for the title include Rachel Chester, Emily Evangelist, Sarah Haggerty, Mirian Loraca, Nicole Gorcsos and Katelyn Keane. Proposed project would update landscaping and features of Spalding Point, a land parcel adjacent to Memorial Field. District 87 board members will vote on approval of the donation that will fund the project May 20.
The Glenbard High School District 87 Board of Education at its May 20 meeting will vote to accept a donation of about $92,000 for a landscaping project adjacent to Memorial Field. Spalding Point, a triangular land parcel immediately west of Memorial Field at the intersection of Park Avenue and Crescent Boulevard, would undergo a complete makeover. Designed by Glen Ellyn architect Tina Koral, the public space would include memorial components, designated dining areas, walkways and landscaping that are cohesive with the Memorial Field landscape, according to the project goals listed on the District 87 website. From District 87: Congratulations to Glenbard East student Javonte Burnett, Glenbard North student Anthony Zatto and Glenbard West student Zainab Saad on earning Character Counts! awards from the village of Glendale Heights. These students were honored April 26 during the annual Character Counts! Pillar Awards breakfast at Glendale Lakes Golf Club in Glendale Heights. They were honored as individuals who “go above and beyond expectations to help others, overcome obstacles and live with integrity.” The students received the Principals’ Pillar Award for exhibiting all six pillars of character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship.

From District 87: Glenbard West High School student Molly Hernandez was chosen as a finalist for the Illinois High School Musical Theater Awards, according to a news release from Glenbard High School District 87. The Illinois High School Musical Theater Awards will be Monday, April 29, at the Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place in Chicago. Broadway in Chicago’s workshop leaders will lead a warm up to prepare finalists for the day, and cast and team members from “Anything Goes” will teach the finalists a group number. Hernandez and the other finalists will sing a cut from one song from the role for which they were nominated for a panel of judges. Glenbard West Model UN Team brings home high honors from Cal-Berkeley conference.
The Glenbard West Model UN team received high honors at the Cal-Berkeley Model UN Conference in San Francisco earlier this month, including the highest individual honor of Gavel recognition, according to a District 87 news release. Seniors Fiona Bare and Conor McDonough received Gavel recognition for being the best delegate in their committees. The Gavel award is the highest individual honor given as part of Model UN, according to the release. Bare was honored for representing Germany on the European Union while McDonough won for playing the role of Robert Kennedy on a simulation of the Kennedy Cabinet. Senior Jordan Geiersbach and sophomore Colette Bare were also named Outstanding delegates for representing Germany on the United Nations …

The junior defensive back led the team in tackles and laid a crushing blow to Lincoln-Way East quarterback Tom Fuessel to stop a fourth-quarter rally.
Holding onto a four-point lead in the Class 7A state championship game, Glenbard West needed a fourth-down stop to end a furious Lincoln-Way East rally. Enter Hayden Carlson, a junior defensive back for the Hilltoppers. Lincoln-Way quarterback Tom Fuessel couldn't find anyone open in the end zone, so he scrambled to his right and made a dash for the go-ahead score. Carlson dove in to spin Fuessel into the air and stop him short of the goal line. The big hit helped Glenbard hold on for the 10-8 score in the state championship. Nicknamed the "Hitters," Glenbard West's defensive mentality was showcased best by Carlson on that hit, one of his 14 team-leading tackles. Has he ever hit anyone harder?
