Glenbard South Girls Cross Country Team Takes Program-Best Fourth at State

Led by all-staters Diane Lipa and Jayme Schlenker, the Glenbard South girls cross country team finished a program-best fourth at the Class 2A state meet.

Glenbard South freshman Diane Lipa was competing in her first Class 2A girls cross country state meet Saturday, but she felt like a veteran. The Raiders were competing at state as a team for the second year in a row, and five of Lipa’s teammates also were from the 2011 lineup. “It definitely helped,” Lipa said. “I was so nervous I didn’t know what to expect and everyone was just, ‘Hey, calm down. You’re going to do great.’ ” Lipa and the Raiders did so well that they made program history and even had to deal with a tinge of disappointment. Glenbard South finished fourth (172 points) -- its highest state finish ever -- in the 25-team field at Peoria's Detweiller Park. Lipa (10th, 17:33 for 3.0 miles) and sophomore Jayme Schlenker (23rd, 17:…

Glenbard South's Wold Battles Back to Capture Boys Cross Country State Title

Glenbard South junior John Wold won the Class 2A boys cross country state title and junior Joe Singleton was an all-state sixth as the Raiders finished fifth as a team.

Glenbard South junior John Wold sat on the team bus Saturday, mentally preparing himself for the Class 2A boys cross country state meet at Peoria’s Detweiller Park. Wold listened to music as he tried to combat the common pre-race nerves. He then gazed outside the window, and the awards ceremony for the earlier Class 1A girls race was taking place. “I saw the girl (St. Teresa’s Ivy Handley) getting her award when she won. Just the smile on her face and her family cheering for her, I was like, ‘Oh, I want that so badly,’ ” Wold said. “It looked so cool. I wanted to make something of this season I didn’t really have.” After not competing until Oct. 6 because of an injury, Wold more than made up for lost time. In only his fifth race this …

Perez and Wold not only persevered, but they also became stronger runners. On Saturday, they both became state champions. Perez won the Class 3A girls race in an all-time course-record time, and Wold captured the Class 2A boys title in record time at the state finals at Peoria’s Detweiller Park. Perez, the Hilltoppers’ first state champion, covered the 3.0 miles in 16:02 – 19 seconds faster than the previous all-time girls best time on the course and 22 seconds better than the previous 3A girls state finals record.  Wold won his race in 14:16 to break the 2A boy's …

So you have to drag the union teachers into this? And how paranoid can you get, referring to 1930's Germany? You give no credit to the children's parents who mainly influence their political outlook beginning at a very young age. The teachers are not telling the children who they should form their allegiance with. The children hear it at home from an early age. That's where the indoctrination …   more ›

Glenbard South Teams Up with Young Hearts for Life to Protect Teens

Cardiac screenings will be held Nov. 8 at Glenbard South. Parents must register children for the program.

About 30 teens die every week from sudden cardiac death. And, roughly 40 percent of young adults at risk for sudden death may have problems detected with an electrocardiogram (ECG). Those are the facts from Young Hearts for Life, a cardiac screening program that will be at Glenbard South High School early next month. The Midwest Heart Foundation, under the direction of Dr. Joseph Marek, a clinical cardiologist with Midwest Heart Specialists, created the program offering free ECGs to high school students in area schools, according to the organization.
