Local Facebook pages will let you know everything that's going on with local businesses.
As a new editor trying to figure out the ways of the Glen Ellyn world and someone who relies on the internet for practically everything, I've been mining Facebook pages to see what local businesses are up to. While Facebook is great for social purposes, businesses and organizations are using it more and more to let customers and the community know about specials, volunteer efforts, superstars they want to recognize, new products and more. (Oh yeah, Glen Ellyn Patch has a pretty awesome Facebook page, too. We really want to get to 1,000 likes—so show us some love here!) Glen Ellyn Patch featured a list of 20 local business, public entity and organization Facebook pages back in November. Here they are again, plus a few more: Let Patch save …

Common in urban areas, co-working spaces allow professionals without dedicated offices spaces a place to connect with clients or work in a more convenient space than a coffee shop.
Craig Yerly knows coffee and business. As the owner of the Next Stop Coffee Shop he sees commuters grab a cup of coffee as they pass through the Metra train depot daily. Yet, when he heads over to Starbucks in downtown Glen Ellyn, he sees all the workers who don’t commute, but who need a place to connect to the Internet and connect with clients. Yerly and business partner Patt Karubus both thought there was a need for a co-working space for professionals who don’t have a dedicated office in the Glen Ellyn and Wheaton area. Co-working allows professionals to have a working space away from a job site. To gauge interest in the co-working concept, Yerly and Karubas are holding three meetings to discuss the co-working option with professionals …

Ryan Schiff founded Postgame in 2009 after he couldn't find a shampoo he was comfortable with his sons using.
A few years ago, when Glen Ellyn resident Ryan Schiff was shopping for shampoo for his boys, who at the time were in sports and going off to camp, he was surprised at the lack of products for kids who were no longer babies and who weren’t adults either. Along with the lack of choices, many of the products had ingredients that concerned Schiff. “My oldest was going to camp and we were arguing over shampoo," he said. "There was nothing between Johnson’s Baby Shampoo and things with dinosaurs and Axe. One thing led to another and I had this idea kicking around in my head.” The idea was for Postgame, a company, which offers shampoo, body wash and a three-in-one shampoo, conditioner and body wash. He talked with his children and their friends …
