Library to Reopen Early Due to Community Support

Library offers curbside service Thursday and Friday, plans reopening for Abraham Lincoln Gala Saturday, April 27.

The Glen Ellyn Public Library is set to reopen on Saturday, April 27 after sustaining considerable damage from last week's flood, in time to host the Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War Opening Gala, according to a library news release. The library initially planned to reopen April 29, but community support may have "expedited" the recovery process, according to the release.  “I am taken aback by the support we have received from the Glen Ellyn Community,” library Marketing Coordinator Anthony McGinn said in a statement. “I received more than 100 e-mails last Thursday alone from library members making sure everyone was safe, some offering to volunteer, others offering donations. Flooding Closes Glen Ellyn Library Until April 29

No books have been damaged, but the library experienced significant flooding.

The Glen Ellyn Public Library will remain closed until Monday, April 29 due to significant flooding from the severe storms that passed through the Chicago area, according to the library’s spokesman Anthony McGinn. “Early this morning, the library had 5 feet of water contained in the mechanical room located in the basement of our building. At that time our library staff contacted the Glen Ellyn fire department who responded and assisted in pumping water out of the building,” he said. As of Thursday afternoon, an unknown amount of water still remained in the mechanical room, McGinn said. Glen Ellyn Librarian Joining Prestigious Program

Outreach librarian Ridgeway Burns has been selected for the ILEAD USA program to help develop ways to better serve library patrons.

Glen Ellyn Public Library outreach librarian Ridgeway Burns has been selected to take part in the year-long ILEAD USA has been selected to take part in the ILEAD USA (Innovate Librarians Explore, Apply and Discover) program to develop ways to better serve library users through implementation of technology and other models.  “I am so happy to be selected and spend time with other interested librarians,” Burns said in a press release, which called the year-long program “prestigious.”  “The librarians on my team and I hope to develop easily replicated programs that will bring the DIY and makerspace culture to other libraries.” In the program, Burns will participate in three four-day sessions to identify a project that can help to address a …

Library Hosting Super Tuesday Events Feb. 12

A number of programs will be offered for patrons of all ages and interests at the Glen Ellyn Public Library.

If you have the winter blahs, and who doesn’t about this time of year, the Glen Ellyn Public Library is ready to give you a break with one day packed with fun activities. The library is hosting a Super Tuesday event, which will feature six programs for library goers of all ages. Events begin in the morning and continue into the evening. Programs offered on Super Tuesday include: Free One-on-One Career Counseling for Adults (9:30am—noon) Register for a free 30-minute session with a JVS career counselor who will review your resume and discuss the current job market.
