Spellapalooza is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Glen Ellyn Resource Center, which hopes to raise more than $13,000 this year.
Laying it on the line for literacy, 16 teams will put their spelling skills to the test Friday night at the Glen Ellyn Children’s Resource Centers’ 5th annual Spellapalooza. The event is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the nonprofit. Last year, the center raised more than $13,000 for its literacy programs and the hope is that this year it will surpass that amount. Roughly 250 people are expected to attend, said Mary Beth Sackett, a board volunteer for the group. Registration to participate in the annual fundraiser for the Children's Resource Center is Friday, Feb. 15.
Time is running out for teams to sign up and participate in the 5th annual Spellapalooza. The event is a fundraiser for the Children’s Resource Center. The deadline for teams to enter to participate is Friday, Feb. 15. To date there are 14 teams registered to participate and take on Alphabet Soup, the current defending champs. The event raises money for the resource center and its mission to provide literacy and life skills to low-income households in Glen Ellyn, according to the organization. Time is running out to purchase tickets for an event that will offer tea and a literary performance to benefit children's literacy. The Glen Ellyn Children’s Resource Center is hosting its Third Annual Literary Event, which will feature a performance from “academic entertainer” Barbara Rinella. The program is being held Nov. 7 at the St. Petronille Parish Center. During the event, tea, coffee and light refreshments will be served. The Glen Ellyn Children's Resource Center is hoping the community will help support its efforts toward securing grant funding through the Chase Community Giving Awards.
If there are two things nonprofits are always in need of they are volunteers and funding. That is no different for the Glen Ellyn Children’s Resource Center. The nonprofit has recently expanded its literacy efforts in Glen Ellyn and would like to grow its program to offer even more assistance to children in need in the community. To grow the program more funding is required. With nothing to lose, other than a chance at some grant funding, the organization is in the running for a Chase Community Giving Award. If the literacy nonprofit gets enough votes to stay in the race, it could receive anywhere between $10,000-to-$250,000. All that residents need to do is vote. Voting is ongoing through Sept. 17.
