Village Announces New Economic Development Council

The mission of the council will be to target and attract business to Glen Ellyn.

Last fall, the Village of Glen Ellyn created the Process Improvement Team, a panel with the goal of making it easier for businesses to open in town. Now, the village has announced the creation of an Economic Development Council, whose mission it will be to target and attract business. “We have made great progress over the last few years,” Glen Ellyn’s Village President Mark Pfefferman said in a news release. “The village reacts well to opportunity. The council will help us be more proactive.” The council will meet monthly through June, according to the village. Members are expected to do research and be active participants in recruiting outside of the meetings. Members include residents Robert Duncan, Jodi Herbold, Grant Kief, Molly …

Village Hires New Economic Development Coordinator

This position now replaces the former Glen Ellyn Economic Development Corporation.

The Village of Glen Ellyn filled a new part-time position that was created this fiscal year after village officials decided to bring previous economic development activities in-house.  Martha Corner is the new economic development coordinator for the village and started her duties last week, said Village Manager Mark Franz. Corner will report directly to Franz, and comes to Glen Ellyn following her previous economic development posts in Elmhurst and Arlington Heights. According to village budget information, Corner will draw a $48,000 salary, and will also receive village health benefits. In Feburary, the village announced it would bring the efforts of the Glen Ellyn Economic Development Corporation in-house, which would eliminate a …

Interim Village Manager Terrance Burghard asked the board to think long and hard on their priorities for economic development in Glen Ellyn for the year ahead—well, maybe not long. Burghard asked trustees to submit their priorities and their level of interest for the next year by the end of the night at a Village Board Workshop meeting on Monday. “We wont let you out of the room unless you have submitted a form,” Burghard joked. The survey given to trustees outlined many projects the board has discussed and are currently working toward. Projects on the list included continuing the transformation of Stacy’s Corners at 810 N. Main St.—otherwise known as the "gas station” as it was referred to several times in the meeting. Other projects …

Ladesic Bucks Trend, Seeks Second Term on Board

Candidate believes serving again will provide continuity to achieve village planning goals.

Glen Ellyn Trustee Peter Ladesic is taking a maverick position by seeking re-election to the village board. "It's community tradition to have people run for a single term," said Ladesic, who is nearing the end of his first term on the board. "But I think that is something that's become a downside for the village." Ladesic, who has lived in Glen Ellyn for 44 years, said it bothers him that things important to the growth of Glen Ellyn do not get the attention they deserve because of the constant turnover of the Village Board. He said every two years 50 percent of the board is new and because of that, long-range opportunities and goals are often missed. "You lose half your football team every two years and there's no way you're going to win …
