A 54-year-old man was arrested Saturday after he transported over 20 teens to their prom in Glen Ellyn while intoxicated, police said. Richard L. Madison, of the 9900 block of Walnut Terrace, Palos Hills, was charged with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol and one count of reckless conduct, both class A misdemeanors. Madison was driving a group of 23 Oswego East High School students to their May 11 prom at the Abbington Banquets in unincorporated Glen Ellyn, according to the DuPage County Sheriff's Office. The students contracted the private limousine service Limos Alive Party Bus to drive them to the Abbington, the Sheriff's Office said in a news release. A man awaits extradition in Denver, CO, after posting threats of extreme violence at the DuPage County Courthouse to Facebook.
Daniel McDade, 31, of Lombard is charged with two felonies after threatening to do a "Columbine type" shooting at the DuPage County courthouse in Wheaton, DuPage County Sheriff John Zaruba announced Monday. Sheriff's detectives said they started investigating after a citizen sent a tip that McDade was threatening courthouse employees and "extreme violence" when he returned to the courthouse for a drug test scheduled for April 4. According to a news release from the sheriff's office, McDade, on bail for a DUI, posted threatening and "disturbing" messages on Facebook after he received notice of the April 4 court appearance. A 28-year-old Addison man died in a car accident near Glen Ellyn this weekend.
The DuPage County Sheriff's office has identified Sunday's 28-year-old crash victim as Ryan Giese of Addison. Giese was driving a Dodge Durango which rolled over on Route 53 at Arboretum Drive, just south of Butterfield Road in unincorporated Glen Ellyn at 4:40 a.m Sunday. Giese was pronounced dead at the scene. The Sheriff's office is investigating the cause of the accident and no details have been released.

Two Glen Ellyn men are still on the DuPage County State's Attorney 'deadbeat dad' list. 12 fathers were arrested on Valentine's Day after the DuPage County Sheriff's Department conducted a sweep in search of parents delinquent in child support payments. Dubbed Operation Love 2, the initiative is targeting a total of 43 parents who have fallen behind. Arrested Feb. 14 were Eugene Bresley, Matthew Brown and Steven Schanz of Elmhurst. Also picked up were Miguel Restrepo of Lombard, Roberto Davila of Addison, Derik Denton of Downers Grove, Juan Estrada of Itasca, Dennis MacLennan of Aurora, Rene Mendoza of Wood Dale, John Otero and Arturo Villafuerte of Villa Park, and Kevin Stearns of Addison. A Wheaton resident was fatally hit by a car at the intersection of Geneva Road and Knollwood Drive.
Shawn D. Somerville, 49, of Wheaton was killed after being hit by a car at the intersection of Geneva Road and Knollwood Drive around 12:15 a.m. in unincorporated Wheaton, according to a press release from the DuPage County Sheriff's Office. The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the accident. The vehicle was traveling westbound on Geneva Road, west of Gary Avenue when it Somerville, who was walking in the roadway at Knollwood Drive. Somerville was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release. DuPage County Sheriff's detectives released new evidence that a pearl ring was missing from the body of Kristina Wesselman the day she was found in 1985.
Kristina Wesselman’s killer may have kept a trophy, an antique pearl ring, DuPage County Sheriff’s detectives revealed today on the 26th anniversary of Wesselman’s slaying. When Wesselman was murdered July 21, 1985, she was wearing the ring, which had a small chip in the pearl, on her left hand. But, when her body was discovered the next day, the ring was nowhere to be found. Detectives believe her killer kept the ring as a memento, however they're not discounting that the ring is no longer in the killer's possession.
