Dog Catches Suspected Car Burglar

DuPage County Sheriff K-9 handler finds alleged burglar, Trevor Llamas of Glen Ellyn, hiding under a fence.

Authorities are praising a dog named "Praise" for his work in tracking a suspect who allegedly burglarized cars near Lombard, officials said Friday.  Trevor Llamas, 20, of the 20 block of Surrey Drive in Glen Ellyn has been charged with one count of Burglary to Motor Vehicle, a Class 1 felony, one count of Obstructing Justice, a Misdemeanor, and one count of Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor, also a Misdemeanor, DuPage County Sheriff John Zaruba announced Friday. The Sheriff’s Office around 6:40 a.m. Friday received a report of a suspicious male, possibly intoxicated, looking in car windows near the intersection of Roosevelt Road and Lawler Avenue in unincorporated Lombard, according to a news release from the Sheriff's office. Wheaton Man Charged With Burglarizing Church Near Glen Ellyn

The man damaged property and ate on the premises of St. Luke's Evangelical Church near Glen Ellyn, according to the DuPage County Sheriff's Office.

A Wheaton man has been charged with burglarizing a church in an unincorporated area near Glen Ellyn, according to the DuPage County Sheriff's Office. The arrest of Jason Schultz, 38, of the 700 block of Liberty Avenue, Wheaton, comes after an investigation by the sheriff's office that began in November, when St. Luke's Evangelical Church first reported a burglary. In mid-December, the sheriff's office says, three more burglaries at schools and churches in south Milton Township were reported, including a second at St. Luke's. The sheriff's investigation led to Schultz, who was charged with one count of burglary from a school or place of worship, a class 1 felony. Chicago Heights Man Charged with Stealing Vehicle After Sunday Carjacking

Cory D. Williams, 24, of the 1400 block of Edgewood in Chicago Heights, was arrested and charged after police said he stole a car and crashed it about a block away from the incident.

A Chicago Heights man was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle Sunday night after carjacking a vehicle left unlocked and running with a 14-year-old inside. Cory D. Williams, 24, of the 1400 block of Edgewood in Chicago Heights, was arrested after he crashed the vehicle and ran from the scene, Glen Ellyn Police Deputy Chief Bill Holmer said. A man left his vehicle running while he went inside a convenience store at 1184 Roosevelt Road around 5 p.m. Williams told the child left inside the vehicle to get out and proceeded to drive west on Roosevelt Road, Holmer said in a news release. Glen Ellyn Police Help Children Find Joy in the Holidays

Glen Ellyn Police and officers from all over DuPage County volunteered to help local kids buy Christmas gifts for their families—and some for themselves.

Shoppers at the Meijer store in Bloomingdale didn't know what to make of all the commotion Saturday morning. With lights and sirens blaring, police and sheriff's vehicles from all over DuPage County turned one by one into the parking lot at about 9:15 a.m. What was the emergency? Christmas shopping. Each uniformed officer was paired with one needy child from their community—about 100 in all. Not only did these kids get a thrilling ride, they got to spend the morning shopping for Christmas gifts for their families and themselves. Each child got $125 to spend, courtesy of donations made to the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 109. Man Dies in Rollover Accident Near Glen Ellyn

An Addison man was pronounced dead on the scene of a rollover accident on Route 53, just south of Butterfield Road around 4:40 a.m. Sunday.

The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a single car rollover accident that occurred around 4:40 a.m. Sunday at Route 53, south of Butterfield Rd. in unincorporated Glen Ellyn. According to a press release from the DuPage County Sheriff's Office, a Dodge Durango rolled over on Route 53 at Arboretum Drive, just south of Butterfield Road, killing an Addison man. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Sheriff’s Detectives are investigating the incident and updates will be made when information becomes available, also pending notifications of next of kin, according to the release. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 630-407-2400.

BGA Investigation Reports On DuPage County Sheriff's Son Acting as Cop

A Better Government Association report states that Zaruba's teenage son 'played cop' during ride-alongs and even chased down a suspect in 2011.

Footage from a squad-car camera shows DuPage County Sheriff John Zaruba's then-18-year-old son chasing down a suspect during a ride-along last year, according to a recent report. According to an investigation led by the Better Government Association, Zaruba's teenage song was "allowed to play cop." During the April 2011 foot chase, video footage shows the teen wearing a jacket with the word "sheriff" printed on the back, the BGA says. Sources told the BGA that Patrick Zaruba, a Wheaton Warrenville South High School graduate, tagged along on "dozens of ride-alongs." Sheriff's Office Searching for Woman, 50

DuPage County Sheriff's Office searches for 50-year-old Bloomingdale woman who was last seen Feb. 1.

The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office is asking for assistance from the public in locating a 50-year-old woman who left from the area of Gary & Schick Rd. in unincorporated Bloomingdale.          Burnessa Buchanan left the area of Gary and Schick in Bloomingdale on Feb. 1. She was last seen at 8:30pm on Feb. 1 near the intersection of 86th Street and Cottage Avenue in Chicago. She has family who lives in the area where she was last seen, but her family has not had any contact with her. The Sheriff’s Office has been investigating and following up trying to find Buchanan, but attempts have been unsuccessful and we are seeking the public’s assistance in locating her.             Buchanan is an African American woman, 5’6” tall, and weighs 210 …

Off-Duty Officer Shoots Alleged Intruder on Papworth Street

The man is in good condition from Saturday's shooting in unincorporated Wheaton.

The DuPage County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting that occurred Saturday at 1N224 Papworth St. in unincorporated Wheaton.  An alleged intruder was shot by the homeowner, an off-duty police officer, according to a press release issued Monday by the sheriff's office. The release did not contain the address of the house, but Patch has confirmed it. Both men were transported to Central DuPage Hospital. The man who was shot is still at the hospital, and is in good condition, a hospital spokeswoman said Friday.
