The Dec. 17 hearing for Joseph Spitalli's arraignment in his murder case has been pushed back after a request for cameras in the courtroom was filed. Spitalli is charged in the November murder of a man dating Spitalli's ex-girlfriend. ------------------ A motion has been filed seeking extended media coverage of Spitalli's arraignment. The judge set a Jan. 9 hearing on the media request, while scheduling the arraignment for Jan. 14, records show. Ali Akel recently pleaded guilty to aggravated battery as part of a hate crime attack inside a Woodridge gas station in 2011. Akel was sentenced to two years of probation and 364 days of work release from DuPage County Jail, according to court records. He will also spend time in a West Chicago …

The third of four men charged in a July 7-Eleven robbery has pleaded guilty for his part in the incident, records show. Antwan Jones agreed to a deal with prosecutors, who dropped several other counts, but still faces sentencing on the remaining robbery charge. He is scheduled to return to court in January. In the last two months, two co-defendants - Antonio Finley and Steven Gayden - pleaded guilty to robbery. Both were sentenced to prison time with recommendations for a prison boot camp. Gayden is housed at the Sheridan Correctional Center, while Finley has not yet been assigned. A four man, DeShaun Wilson, is scheduled for a Dec. 12 hearing. A grand jury has indicted a Lisle man on telephone harassment and aggravated battery charges stemming from an October incident involving a high school volleyball game. John Kasik is accused of leaving threatening messages for his daughter's volleyball coach at Lisle High School, and later bumping the school's athletic director during a meeting. Kasik is free on $300,000 bail with a scheduled court appearance - at which he will likely be arraigned - on Nov. 19. The former Naperville Library Board president charged earlier this year with stealing nearly $26,000 from an area homeowners association recently pleaded guilty to a felony theft charge. A Willowbrook man charged in the shooting death of a Hinsdale South High School graduate has pleaded not guilty. Juan Cuellar denied a five-count murder indictment during an Oct. 22 hearing. He remains held without bond in DuPage County Jail. Prosecutors allege Cuellar drove up on 18-year-old Joshua Holmes as he walked near the Lake Hinsdale Terrace apartments and fired six times, hitting Holmes who later died. Cuellar is scheduled to return to court Nov. 27. Cuellar's mother, 42-year-old Elva Hernandez, also pleaded not guilty this week to obstruction of justice charges. She concealed the gun Cuellar used in the shooting, according to the indictment against her. Court records show Hernandez wanted her bail reduced to $30,000, but jail …

A 24-year-old Chicago man has denied charges he held up a gas station. Mario Williams, who is on parole for retail theft, remains in DuPage County Jail on $300,000 bail charged with armed robbery and aggravated robbery. Police previously said Williams used a semi-automatic handgun while demanding cash from an employee of the Shell Station in the 900 block of North York Road. Williams was captured after he tried to flee by taking a taxi out of the area. Williams was arraigned during an Oct. 15 hearing, court records show. He returns to court in November. A 51-year-old man, who last lived in Downers Grove, recently pleaded guilty to swindling money from an elderly resident. Metlow Miller admitted to one count of aggravated home repair fraud in connection to an April encounter with an 83-year-old man. Miller told the man he would fix cracks in his driveway and sidewalk for $32, but then told the man it would case nearly $1,300. The man paid Miller $950, although no work was performed. Miller received 180 days in DuPage County Jail, 24 months of probation and was ordered to pay restitution, as well as $650 in court costs. Diego Garcia wants a judge to clarify the sentencing range he faces on armed robbery charges tied to a pair of holdups in 2011. Garcia was told he was eligible for between 21 to 45 years if convicted in both cases, but the DuPage County Public Defender's Office, suggests the range should actually be six to 30 years because a 15-year add-on for using a weapon during an armed robbery is improper, according to court records. That's because being armed is an fundamental element of an armed robbery charge, and not something that enhances possible penalties, documents show. Garcia said he cannot decide whether to discuss a plea or to go to trial without knowing his actual possible sentence. An Oct. 11 hearing is scheduled in the case. A Wheaton …

An 18-year-old Bellwood man has pleaded not guilty to attempted predatory sex assault of a child and other charges in connection to an August incident in an Elmhurst park. Prosecutors allege Nikolai Anderson, who also is charged with sexual exploitation of a child and indecent solicitation of a child, exposed himself to two girls, ages 12 and 14, and asked one of the girls to perform a sex act. Anderson denied the charges during a Sept. 26 hearing. He returns to court in November. A McCullom Lake woman has been placed on 30 months of probation after her conviction on a charge neglecting her 82-year-old mother from Naperville in 2009. Attorneys in Johnny Borizov's triple murder case have their eyes on a new trial date in the 2010 case - April 2013. During a hearing this week, Judge Daniel Guerin gave the case its second scheduled trial date after a planned January trial was bumped because of an attorney's conflict. Borizov is accused in the shooting deaths of three members of the Kramer family in March 2010 in a scheme that intended to kill Angela Kramer, the mother of Borizov's son. Jacob Nodarse, Borizov's codefendant, pleaded guilty, but mentally ill, a year ago to a single murder count in a deal with prosecutors to secure his testimony against Borizov. Nodarse faces a minimum of 45 years in prison when he is eventually sentenced after testifying. Arraignment is …

A Downers Grove man has pleaded guilty to a burglary charge stemming from 2011 break-ins in Denburn Woods. However, Andrew Walczak's sentence won't be settled until the judge and attorneys in the case learn how Walczak performs during his time in the county's drug court program, according to court documents. Walczak admitted to one count of burglary during a Sept. 5 hearing. He was arrested in July 2011 after a manhunt shut down the neighborhood after a police received a report of a man with a gun, who apparently fled into the woods after trying to break into parked cars. Walczak returns to court for a status hearing on Sept. 27. Kristy Wavra, the Lisle woman accused of biting a nurse technician at Good Samaritan Hospital in April, has …
