Wheaton Warrenville South beat the Hilltoppers in the 2009 state 7A title game and has steamrolled Wheaton North and Benet Academy in playoffs.
Losing stings and does not go away easily. And Glenbard West (10-1) has felt that sting since losing to DuPage rival Wheaton Warrenville South (11-0), who beat them 31-24 in double overtime in the 2009 state 7A title game in Champaign. Now, it's payback time, as the Hilltoppers are looking for revenge against the Tigers at 4 p.m. Saturday at Red Grange Field in Wheaton. "It brings revenge," senior quarterback Daver Glawe said. "It's something we obviously had circled since Day 1 with having another shot at Wheaton South. Coach (Chad) Hetlet has us focus on each week, but said in the big picture, we will get a shot against those Tigers. It should be a fun game." The setting this time will be the 7A state quarterfinals with seasoned veterans…

Hilltoppers know what they have to do Saturday if they want to defeat a tough Griffins' team and advance to 7A state quarterfinals.
Glenbard West got confident, now it has to get tough. The Hilltoppers' confidence soared after the team beat Plainfield North, 51-12, on Oct. 30 at the beginning of the 7A state football playoffs. But Round 2 of the playoffs will be more challenging as the No. 2 Hilltoppers face the physical No. 3 Lincoln-Way East. The game starts at 1 p.m. Saturday at Duchon Field. Glenbard West head coach Chad Hetlet said the Griffins are a tough, physical team. "They are one of the best programs in the state," he said. "They are well coached. We are going to prepare like it's a state championship." Senior running back Nick Burrello is coming off an impressive performance by gaining 284 all-purpose yards and scoring four touchdowns against the Tigers. …

The Hilltoppers (8-1, 5-1 West Suburban Conference Silver) lost the 2009 state championship 31-24 to Wheaton Warrenville South in double overtime. In 2008, they reached the semifinals, but fell 27-20 to East St. Louis. The Tigers (7-2, 6-1 Southwest Prairie Conference) made the 2009 playoffs and were defeated 40-14 by St. Rita in the first round. Bibbs will be the toughest challenge for the Hilltoppers' stout defense yet. The 5'10", 198- pound running back has …

ELMHURST—In the showdown of undefeated rivals, No. 2 Glenbard West dispatched No. 17 York 27-10 Friday on the road to remain undefeated. Glenbard West (7-0, West Suburban Conference Silver 4-0) trailed 10-0 early in the game, but came back with 27 unanswered points stemming from a hot play between senior quarterback Daver Glawe and senior wide receiver Mark Hiben. One of the trainers had told me that they switched the QB in the last drive. Just watched the tape. They did NOT. That's crazy, yo. That kid got splattered a half dozen times. His cousin was only in on the last play of the game.   more ›
