The three winners were among the top 40 finalists a judging panel chose a year ago. After the finalists were chosen, visitors to Cantigny were given the opportunity to vote for their favorites, according to a news release from Cantigny. “We thank all those who participated and with their entries captured the extraordinary beauty and diversity of Cantigny,” Matt LaFond, Cantigny Park executive director said in a news…

It’s a Bird … It’s a Plane … It’s … A Meteor Shower!

Here are some tips for viewing the Perseids meteor shower, which is set to peak this weekend.

Dubbed by scientists at NASA as “the best meteor shower of the year,” viewers of the Perseids could witness hundreds of shooting stars – if they are in the right place, at the right time. The Perseid meteor shower peaks around Aug. 12, as Earth passes through a stream of debris from an old comet named Swift-Tuttle, which was named after the astronomers who discovered it in 1862. Glen Ellyn Photographer Wins Cantigny Contest

Lauren Fox wins second place in Cantigny in Focus Photo Contest.

"I've always liked to take photos, but I don't consider myself a photographer," Fox said, adding that taking photos is a way to relax and have fun. Fox went to Cantigny on a beautiful fall day with the intention of snapping a great shot of a hummingbird for the park's Cantigny in Focus Photo Contest. It was a photo contest she had entered a few years earlier where one of her photos was selected, but ultimately didn't win an award. When she heard the news that her photo received a second place finish in this…
