From The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County Nature is sweet at the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County’s Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center in Oak Brook, and Boy and Girl Scouts are invited to join a special event that’s all about maple syrup. The program, “Scouts, Get Sticky!,” Feb. 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., will show scouts how to make maple syrup from start to finish. They’ll learn about the parts of a tree and the importance of tree sap, hear who first discovered how to make syrup and much more. Patch's searchable database allows you to search by cities in Illinois. Information gathered by the Los Angeles Times shows the leaders of the Boy Scouts of America who were expelled between 1947 and 2005 on suspicions or confirmation of sexual abuse. If a troop is listed, a case file exists. At this time, not all case files are available online. As new documents become available, Patch will update this database.

Even children can truly make a difference.
There are 13 more heroes in Chicago's collar communities. None of them is named Taylor Swift or Justin Bieber. Still, they are young. They are impressive. These 13 young men, ages 11 to 14, were put to the test and they passed. They are Boy Souts. They were prepared. They are most certainly heroes. It wasn't long ago when an Evanston man was riding his bike along a path in Palos. Out of his element, Andy Matthews, accidentally hit a large rock—with his face. In shock, Matthews struggled to get to safety. He came upon the New Lenox Boy Scout Troop 44 on a hike. The boys noticed Matthews swerving on his bike, disoriented. They asked if he was OK. Joseph Lanzillo, of Glen Ellyn’s Boy Scout Troop 41, has collected and shipped more than 300 pairs of gently used children’s athletic shoes to benefit Coaches Across Continents, an innovative development organization that uses soccer to build relationships with communities in Africa and around the world. Lanzillo, 17, a senior on the Glenbard West Varsity Soccer team, and captain of FC Glen Ellyn Lakers U-17 team, conducted the shoe drive as part of his service project to earn the rank of Eagle Scout. He also organized barefoot soccer games for local youth to raise awareness of the needs in Africa and to generate funds to defray shipping costs. He hosted “Barefoot Soccer for Barefoot Kids” on the indoor turf at Ackerman Sports and Fitness …

Rachel Del Ciello dedicated her time to helping out the library at the San Miguel School in Chicago.
Those of you who follow my column weekly may have noticed that last week we took a break from the Girl Scouts series and featured a local Glen Ellyn group that helps refugees increase their literacy. This week we're going back to the Girl Scout theme and we’re incorporating the increased literacy theme from last week. Glen Ellyn resident Rachel Del Ciello worked hard to achieve the highest rank the Girl Scouts of the USA offers -- Ambassador. “They recently re-did the levels and Ambassador is the highest a girl can go, it’s above a Senior Girl Scout,” Del Ciello explains. For those familiar with the Boy Scouts program, the Ambassador level is similar to Eagle Scout, particularly when it’s combined with the Gold Award. Del Ciello’s work …
