The NCAA basketball tournament begins this week.
For me, March is one of the best months out of the whole year because it's all about basketball. Before March madness begins this week, make sure to print out a NCAA bracket so you can predict the tournament champion. For those of you who know me, you can bet I'll be filling in the No. 1 spot with my Missouri Tigers. What tricks do you use when filling out your bracket? What team do you think will win it all?

Glenbard South senior heading to NCAA Division I school in Indianapolis. She is No. 3 all-time leading scorer.
Nevena Markovic literally has come a long way. Markovic and her family immigrated to the United States from Serbia when she was 10-years-old. She knew only a couple of words of English when the family settled in Glen Ellyn. Now, Markovic is preparing to graduate from Glenbard South in June. And her English? If you didn’t know she had grown up in Serbia, you’d swear she was born in the states. Along the way, she’s developed into quite a basketball player. How good? Well, the roomful of well-wishers—her parents and grandparents, several close friends, girls basketball coach Julie Fonda and other school officials—who gathered Wednesday morning to watch Markovic sign her National Letter of Intent to play college basketball at Indiana …

Glenbard South and Glenbard West cheerleaders are rallying the fans at games this season.
Whether your team is winning or losing, you can count on the cheer teams at South and West to keep the crowd in the game! Featuring routines that combine dance, gymnastics and all the intensity of a hard-fought basketball game, the cheer teams have as active a schedule as any of the other teams at school. Besides the great support for their high school's teams, the squads compete in various tournaments throughout the year including an IHSA competition in February. This year, both South and West competed at the Streamwood Sectional and qualified for state. South took second in the Medium Team Sectional and 15th in state, while West took second in the Large Team Sectional and 10th in state. For Viewfinder this week, we turned the lens …

Michael Mache leads the Hilltoppers to Friday’s regional championship game with 28 points
From the first plays of the first quarter, you could sense the determination in the Glenbard West Hilltoppers. On paper, it was the number 21 seed against the number 6 seed, but on the court it was two teams battling every minute, contesting every shot, fighting for every rebound and refusing to give in. The Hilltoppers started out strong, taking an early 9-2 lead with Jeff Levesque, Todd Lowery and Michael Mache all hitting shots. But just as quickly as the Hilltoppers jumped in front, Waubonsie Valley came back strong. The Warriors went on a 13-0 run to take the lead on Glenbard West. Bryan Jefferson, Tyler Yanisch and Austin Keys all scored in that run, with Jakobi Johnson leading the scoring in the quarter with seven points. Eight…

Raiders come close, but Chicago North Lawndale takes the game.
Last night's matchup showed two very different teams that squared off at Wheaton Academy in IHSA regional play. Different, but evenly matched. The Raiders found themselves in a hole early in the game, as North Lawndale converted turnovers into points. North Lawndale was quick to the ball and ran effective traps. While this hurt the Raiders, the Raider defense was holding their own and controlling the boards in the early going. Dusko Despot was a force under the basket, boxing out and causing foul problems for the North Lawndale front court. Despot was also active on the offensive side, and when the first quarter ended, North Lawndale led only 10-7 with Despot earning five of the seven Raider points. “I was really proud of the way …

9-3 run in overtime seals the victory at the Lombard Regional.
The Wolves jumped out early, taking a 5-0 lead on the Hilltoppers early in the first quarter. But it didn’t take long for Glenbard West to right the ship. Matthew Mache opened the scoring with a three, followed by his brother Michael’s two to tie the game at five. Both teams were playing with a lot of adrenaline and at times the play got a little loose. The Hilltoppers and Wolves were tied four times in the first frame before Deshawn Elliot’s three-pointer gave the Hilltoppers a 17-15 lead at the quarter ended. “Our game plan was to try and get inside because of our size, and I think that worked out” said Hilltopper center Todd Lowery, who had two key baskets in the first quarter. The Hilltoppers continued to press their height …
