Western Michigan Offer Makes Seven for Glenbard West’s Shute

The Glen Ellyn junior offensive lineman from the undefeated Illinois state-champion Hilltoppers got his seventh offer, from the Broncos, on Monday.

With an offer from the Western Michigan Broncos on Monday, Glenbard West junior offensive lineman Eric Shute now has at least seven choices for where to take his 6’5”, 270-pound, state title-winning talents, Writing Illini reports .  According to the site, Shute also has offers from the Minnesota Golden Gophers, the Illinois Fighting Illini, the Syracuse Orange, the Toldeo Rockets, the Kentucky Wildcats and the North Carolina State Wolfpack. Shute was a starter on the 14-0 Glenbard West team that defeated Lincoln-Way East 10-8 to win the Illinois state championship in November.  Read the full story at the Writing Ilini website.

Cantigny Offers Winter Golf Series Classes

Classes are $10 for adults and $5 for junior golfers under 18. Classes are geared toward all abilities.

As the weather warms and the grass begins to green, a golfers thoughts turn to teeing off. Before the golf season begins, Cantigny Golf Academy is offering a winter teaching series so golfers don’t get teed off once they hit the greens. The series of classes is being taught by Greg Baresel, staff PGA professional, according to Cantigny Golf Academy. The series began last month, and three more classes will be held, which are open to the public. The classes are designed for all skill levels. Baresel is recognized as one of the area’s top young golf coaches, and his primary focus with all students is to help simplify the game, according to Cantigny Golf Academy. Hall of Famer Gossage, Baseball Great LaRussa Being Honored Sunday in Lombard

Baseball fans have the opportunity to rub elbows with baseball royalty at the Pitch and Hit Club of Chicago banquet Sunday.

Glen Ellyn baseball fans don’t have to travel far this weekend to have the chance to meet and eat with some of baseball’s legends. The Pitch and Hit Club of Chicago is hosting its 67th Annual Awards Banquet Sunday at the Carlisle Banquet Hall in Lombard. Among the honorees in attendance will be Baseball Hall of Famer Rich "Goose" Gossage and Tony LaRussa. The Pitch and Hit Club banquet is the longest running and only winter baseball banquet in the Chicago area, according to the organization. Proceeds from the dinner benefit baseball-related organizations, including Cubs Care, Chicago White Sox Charities and the Professional Baseball Scouts Foundation. Hilltopper Fans: Vote for Glenbard West in Peoples' Champion Contest

Fans have the chance to vote for the Hilltoppers in the Peoples' Champion contest on USA Today High School Sports.

Glenbard West Hilltopper fans you have the chance to root for the state champs again. USA Today’s High School Sports section is running an online Peoples' Champion contest to determine what teams fans think are the best of the best. The highest ranking teams from each state are represented and the two teams from Illinois represented in the Midwest are Glenbard West and Mount Carmel.  The contest has three rounds and the first round is underway, launching on Monday. Notre Dame, Northern Illinois Rosters Boast Glen Ellyn Talent

There are a lot of athletes from Chicago suburbs—including Glen Ellyn—on some of the best teams in college football this season.

The BCS bowl season has begun, but two area schools will wait until after the new year to play in some of the most prestigious bowl games—and their rosters feature lots of area talent from Chicago suburbs and Patch towns. Players from Glen Ellyn are among teams participating in several of the bowl games. Notre Dame, the No. 1 team in the country, plays Alabama in the BCS National Championship game Jan. 7. And No. 15 Northern Illinois, a surprise BCS team, heads to the Orange Bowl to play No. 12 Florida State on New Year's Day. A number of athletes from Patch towns are on the rosters of these teams, as well as others playing in bowl games over the next few weeks. Glen Ellyn Golden Eagles 103LB Team Finishes with a Perfect Season

Just like the Glenbard West Hilltoppers, another Glen Ellyn football team finished the season with a perfect record.
