Forest Glen Elementary School
561 Elm St, Glen Ellyn, IL 60137

Stately elm trees stand, like columns, before the main entrance of Forest Glen Elementary, a school with a historyMore that stretches back to the earliest days of Glen Ellyn. The present school, opened in 1950, is actually the third incarnation of the school known today as Forest Glen. The first was a one-room schoolhouse opened in 1841 as Stacy's Corner School, then renamed Forest Glen in 1892.

"There is such a rich tradition here because this school has been in the community for so long," says principal Mary Hornacek, who attributes her school's longevity and reputation to "the commitment of the staff, the parents and the community to provide a high-quality and enriching education for their children, and to get them ready for the 21st century."

Forest Glen is one of four elementary schools in Glen Ellyn School District 41, which offers district-wide programs including art, music, physical education and a gifted program. The school's outdoor facilities include a cloistered area with two playground sets and a basketball hoop. Indoors, there are two gymnasiums. The school occupies a six-acre site at the southwest corner of Elm and Main, just steps away from the intersection and district known as Five Corners.
