Vinnie B., why are you getting upset with the criticism which is being launched against this orRead More these parents, and rightfully so. Kids are a 24/7 job and they need to be(not should be) under surveillance every second of the day (especially in this day and age). Now if one can't seem to do that and if one cant conform to that, then one does not need children!!!So having said that Vinnie B,. your getting upset over criticism toward these parents is a small price to pay compared to the evil that could have happened to this child by getting hit by a car or by getting picked up by a pedophile or any of the other numerous bad things that could have happened to the child.

Some parents will do just about anything to get on a reality show. Blame the networks for thisRead More charade and that is what it is. This was all planned....

How can you "detonate" something that doesn't contain explosives? Was this just a case ofRead More "Panic at the disco"?
jpf2361 April 16, 2014 at 10:29 am
Heywood, The Bomb Squad uses an external explosive device to try and detonate whatever is in theRead More bag.

strange how we respond just as the terrorists desire us to. the media commemorates each incident asRead More if it were a new profit center to mine for every last click. whole populations now sit in fear of another 'something' about to happen, never again, fully safe like we were in the good old days of the cold war? once these bstrds hit us deep inside our own turf we have not become stronger, but rather 'hardened', emboldened in our delusions of ultimate superiority, no longer safe on our 'island of north america'. each of these events changes us all even imperceptably, forcing us to accept their motives, their ideals, their imam imposed concept of living. we act in unison, determined to show them we are not affected, yet that very demonstration reveals our inner need to respond, to re-affirm our own injury, each of those crowd-felt sympathies we all cling to, even if for the brief moment of our 'crowd'. be strong, and further, be alert, be conspicuous in manner in which you care for each other. shy not away from those who seek your death, but do not embrace them, as they fein no challenge to seek close to your demise.

McCloud -- what makes you think they ever went into the voting booth. Absentee voting in theRead More comfort of one's own living room and supervised by the Democrat Precinct Captain does part of the job in Cook County. Plus, of course, the absentee voter material sent on request to addresses at which a registered voter no longer lives, collected by the janitor, and filled out by the precinct captain...Republicans need to know how to play that game.

Typical behavior from government pigs. They steal our tax dollars, then turn around and spend themRead More on the police state they use to oppress us.
Sandy Murphey April 16, 2014 at 01:10 pm
The best part about all of this is that because there's always "OPPORTUNITY IN CRISIS",Read More this "problem" created more business for this little hydro shop. I love that the women gardeners showed so much support, and online orders increased so much, that he had to hire more people!! YEAH! The DEA helped, but I do feel sorry for those who are punished for using God's gift of nature, and a weed at that!

Our younger selves would also have to be willing to accept the advice. Often easier said than done.
Pearl Gannon April 16, 2014 at 09:47 am
I believe both of you have very good points. @Sal, who's to say that we, as younger children orRead More people would actually listen to that advice that we were given? We want to be free, do the opposite of what our parents say, etc. And @Bob, I wish more people realized that they can be THAT PERSON for others. We can be that for our children, friends going through rough times, strangers...you name it. The possibilities are endless. I just hope people learn that!
Willie Wilmette April 16, 2014 at 11:29 am
Sal is so right. Younger me would not have listened to me.
Mike April 16, 2014 at 12:00 pm
Reading the various posts here I am struck at the hatred we now have for one another. I believe weRead More are more divided now that at any time in our history with the exception of the Civil War. Obama is a huge success. He has managed to divide our people as no one else has in modern history. A shame that so many have stopped thinking for themselves and instead follow the masses and the political propaganda.
Stu Pidasso April 16, 2014 at 12:49 pm
Mike- there is no hate here. actually a pathetic situation when one feels he is "owed"Read More something rather than earning it by working for it. Why not move down to the inner city and live there for 6 months, then get back to us!! it should be a real eye opener for you!! I work 6-7 days a week to enjoy what I have, even though i have little time to do so, I'm not complaining, but it bothers me that i am penalized by the way of extra taxes, fee's , etc., to help those who have no intention of trying to help themselves.. I have TWO children, NOT 5, 6, or 7 simply because I cannot afford it, and would NOT EXPECT the government to take care of them for me!!!

Hey John Rithouse, if you don't like it, then don't come here for news. Guys like you make this sameRead More annoying comment every day. Are you mentally slow?
rubberband April 15, 2014 at 12:28 pm
This was out in my neck of the woods. All really great kids, college bound and starting their adultRead More lives. Having lost a child, I can say these families will mourn for as long as they live, and will have to find a "new normal" as EVERYTHING is changed for them now...I wish them strength, there is nothing quite like burying a child. Appreciated are the messages of respect and sympathy. It can be annoying to get news from areas other than your own, however the new Patch is doing things differently, and show no evidence of changing it back.....my best advice would be to ignore stories not in your area, and to write your editor directly, and share your comments with those who can make changes.

Possibly the best puff piece ever in the history of The Patch. No way on earth anyone in the WesternRead More suburbs will be making jelly bean infused vodka unless they are teenagers. And how are the holy trio of The Shandy, The Snake Bite, and The Black Velvet Easter themed? Admittedly, my Bible studies are a little behind, but how do they fit in? Thanks for the laughs, GEP! :-)

Kathleen I don't get the Massachusetts reference, having said that I think your about right.
century April 15, 2014 at 10:30 pm
Kathleen, your right. As for housing, the less number of homeless, the more grant money the city andRead More state receives for housing. It happens all the time in Pennsylvania. Free loaders like the crackheads mentioned in the story is why people who have legimate disabilities are judged as liars and have to fight for their rights.
DaveR April 16, 2014 at 09:52 am
I believe it was Gov. Dukakis that allowed the dopers and losers into the senior housing. Got toRead More love the blind faith voting mentality of Massachusetts.
Alice Riley April 15, 2014 at 09:12 am
Oh and in one year our property taxes more than doubled--and that's not even including what theRead More mayor plans to do with increasing property taxes. This state is run by corrupt politicians and union leaders. Their ineptitude has what has led us to this fiscal nightmare and they continue to look the other way and just expect to have the residents pay even more to solve the problems of their own making..
Grumpy Old Man April 15, 2014 at 01:33 pm
@Southeast Side - Well, if all of the middle class has moved out of Chicago it will be othersRead More (wealthy, poor, working class) who are paying the tax. If your argument is that there still is a middle class in Chicago and that they will pay the tax, say it. As it is your response just sounds like a left wing shill. Other than your last comment, I happen to think your post has a point because I think implicit in your response is that there is still a significant middle class in Chicago (but if taxes keep going up the comment in the main article could be a self fulfilling prophesy - maybe not - there is some controversy over whether millionaires would leave the state if the 3% additional surtax was imposed on earnings above $1 million).
Grumpy Old Man April 15, 2014 at 01:57 pm
Frankly, I am not so sure that Zorn doesn't have a point. The ever escalating property taxes affectRead More all of us and probably in excess of what we would pay in terms of increased property taxes (or rent increases due to them). However, it would require some trade off - like a reduced property tax level than currently in place and a single taxing entity for Chicago - the council to set all taxes in the City including taxes for CPS. I don't have the answer but I wouldn't mind some reduction in services and something done abut the constitutional provision that these pensions can't be touched regardless of how economic downturns affect the ability of the investments in which the funds are deposited to maintain a pension amount at a given level.
