Immigration crisis? I think that is a "typo"....didn't you mean "invasion"? IRead More mean basically that is what has happened over the last 30 yrs...we are just sugar coating it to make us feel we are in control of the situation and we are not. But what do we expect Mexican nationals to do? Stay in a country where their whole family may be desimated by gun toting hired guns (paramilitary) in Mexico's? Of course not... we would all run for our lives also. We must use empathy if we are to remain a conscious people outside of whatever our government's actions and shortcomings maybe.....such as creating chaos in a country by sending paramilitary in order to take over the drug cartels...if our country was not full of drug intoxicated victims then Mexico would not have a problem. Now you know why our military has not been deployed to the border....bcause our boys would refuse the mission. So obviously we are relying on paramilitaries to do our dirty work. We should all be appalled at what is happening. Avi

I use to feel the way you did. Personality, the business class and particularly in Orange County hasRead More hired them for jobs for over 30 years. In fact some of the stats by the US Census while lots of conservatives will not agree with is some of the illegal immigrants left Santa Ana and Anaheim since they couldn't find jobs. The Census shows OC aging and Hispanic immigrants tend to make the county younger but OC is now about 37 years old. Hispanic immigrants tend to have more children and bring the average down. The US Census shows a dropped from 2.8 in 2007 to 2.12 now. Granted, there are still lots of illegal immigrants in the OC but at one time they were over 300,000. As for conservatives Texas has almost as bad a problem since business there hired them to do construction and service jobs like dishwashers and fast food. Also, OC kid population has been dropping which is why I think at least some illegals went home or to other parts of California or out of state. The 5 and under population is now onl 6.1 which is slightly below the US average and the under 18 population is about 23.3 also under the national average.. In fact Hispanics were more foreign born as a percentage of the workforce under George W Bush in 2007 when they represent 56 and are now at 49. The only reason I believe that illegal Hispanics are coming and going particularly from Mexico is the birthrate is dropping they tend to have near the 3.0 figure in the US while native born Hispanics are closer to 2.0.

The Central American kids crisis is a law passed under George W Bush because of human trafficking itRead More went to far in the direction of protecting them. On the other hand, Mexico we can just return the kids without having a court hearing that the 2008 act made different for the Central American kids. The hypercracy over many Republicans on immigration allowed companies like here in Orange County and Texas to hire them but pushed border control when probably getting rid of the job magnet a long time ago even under George W Bush's first term would have solved the problem. In Orange County that met not hiring every maid, landscaper, car washer, fast food worker, day labor, low skilled assembly worker usually in garment work or sometimes medical devices or aerospace assembly, and prep cooks. These are just some of the jobs that have been done by illegal immigrants in Orange County the passed 30 years. They entered Santa Ana in the late 1970's and started with simple factory work that is now in Mexico because of NAFTA.

Mitch and Gracie, would that be respect for Shadwick the accused or respect for his supposedlyRead More cheating wife? The bumbling accused, the bumbling Geneva PD, a soon-to-be exposed boyfriend and the possibility of an inept judge presiding add up to months of colorful, sordid stories, all written with the usual flourish by our local reporters. First up-mental incapacity as the defense. When will Mayor Burns comment?

"The murder is the first in Geneva since July 2. 1975 " said police commando Julie Nash.Read More History will show that the Geneva Police botched that investigation also. No arrests have ever been made.

It's not surprising to see Roseland on the list. It has had to struggle with inadequate finances forRead More decades. It may serve Advocate well to consider siphoning a little bit of the cash they spend expanding Christ from lot line to lot line and use it to purchase this struggling institution. Then upgrade it's emergency room, as well as it's in and outpatient facilities. This would alleviate some of the pressure on Christ's emergency room and shorten the the ambulance ride for those who need it the most. Granted that there are great benefits to the economies of scale at Christ. However, such concentrated investment of resources in our hospital system leaves many areas of the city under served and ignored.

After another baby dies after being left in a hot car, a mother recounts a mistake that might have cost her daughter's life.
John Asmar July 13, 2014 at 05:53 am
RDJ there is no other solution and the car will not catch on fire. Modern cars are loaded withRead More electronics. And the system would be simple to use and the responsibility of the parent to make sure it is used and understand how it works. Like leaving your keys in the ignition. My car warns me that i did that. Either way laws will not stop it and people are per-occupied with other things in life it seems to remember a baby is in the car when they go to work. Someone suggested that the day care folks make phone calls when kids do not show up. So if that law was passed would they be responsible and sued. My system would work rather nicely. People think by making new laws things will change. They don't . But there are groups of people out there making useless laws all day long and nothing is accomplished with that. But i still need a name for it. Just my thoughts on the issue

Follow up to post my earlier..never claimed to be a 'perfect' parent though it is a parentsRead More responsibility to make sure your child is in a safe environment if unattended such as bathroom or cooking, a safe daycare, etc.. I don't normally waste my time posting on topics but not keeping a child safe from death is just not right and breaks my heart...Sorry no sympathy for morons!

The graphomania has reached a fever pitch on this board, not to mention the invective, and RDJ, IRead More hold you mostly to blame. Judging by the foregoing, it's likely an exercise in futility, but I'll try anyway to tie a gathering knot at the end of all these weavings. I don't think any parent (not just a bioparent, but a genuine mom or dad) would disagree that their child/ren are the most important things in the world to them, and occupy their thoughts, hopes, and daily motivation more than anything else in their lives. Separately, where the facts conservatively warrant, an untimely death ought to be officially investigated in order either to uncover or to rule out wrongdoing. However, to assume that a loss of life, no matter how horrific or catastrophic, that had resulted from a mistaken apprehension of circumstances or even momentary lapse of judgment, is irrefutable evidence of that person's cognitive or moral deficiency or, worse, culpability, is not only mean-spirited but unreasonable and, simply, false. There. Oh, and John Asmar, since your last post is right before my eyes, I would offer to you that although it seems a very good idea from a safety perspective, one must also consider that every modification and added feature that goes into the design and manufacture of an automobile comes at a cost that will raise the price point for all purchasers, not just those that happen to be parents. Perhaps as an option or after-market feature your idea might be commercially feasible, but I don't see it as a viable standard feature. Just my $0.02.

Voice of Reason, I never hid my opinions so what are you complaining about? Search and you'll findRead More research that shows that increasing the minimum wage is good for the businesses and the overall economy. But I am sure nothing will convince you anyway since you prefer the echo chamber of fox news et al. BTW, check out the announcement from IKEA this morning about increasing the minimum wage of their US employees.
Edward Andrysiak July 11, 2014 at 10:44 am
Mixing apples and oranges. Minimum wage is NOT intended to be a living wage. Minimum is entry levelRead More and part time work...a place for young people to get a start in the business world and yes, a place for older folks to supplement their SS check with a few bucks. Living wage and minimum wage should never be compared...they are not the same thing!
