Made a special trip to buy some coins to add to my collection. It was as if he didn't want to sell coins at all. I asked him about a few different coins to buy that are not rare, like Peace dollars, Morgans and Mecurys. Each time he referred me to the case which had a poor selection. I've bought from many dealers and they will always show me some additional coins that are not in the case. Amazingly, he got positively giddy when some one came in to sell coins and then quickly shooed me out the door. So, I guess if you're selling this is where to go but if your in the market to buy don't bother.

Making my way through my parents' estate was tough. I shopped coins around to 5 places and Gabe gave me the best price on every stash I brought in. I've also sold gold jewelry to Gabe and he was far more generous than the gold buyers or jewelry stores I visited. Gabe is a matter-of-fact type of guy, but I prefer than when doing business.

Gabe is awesome. I moved to Glen Ellyn in 1992 and what most impressed me is the way we were treated even though we were only there to look and buy a few coins. Over the years I would go in to buy foreign coins to put in the ground for St. Patty's Day (my kids would think a leprechaun left them) and when they were old enough to go downtown without me, my kids would stop in and he always treated them with the same respect he gave to adults. (Not always common in some merchants.) I was there recently to sell some silver items and was pleasantly surprised at what he gave me. I was aware of the current market value but still expected to haggle, but it didn't happen. He was honest, fair and professional. That's why he has been around for so long and I am sure will continue to stay in business long after the fly-by-nights have left this town.

Very limited selection of coins and the graded coins are of third rate grading service like ICG. Like pulling teeth to get him to show me anything not in the very limited display case.

Discouraged me from buying common silver coins telling me I should buy key dates and rare coins. Since then silver has gone from $32 to $46 and ounce. Common date coins have outperformed key dates and rare coins by leaps and bounds.

Since he won't sell me common date silver I go in for coin supplies and he has been rude and belittling. Guess I'll take a hint and not shop there anymore.
