District 41 Children Need Your Voice

We need a community Q&A forum to provide input on the Think Tank model, but District 41 is resisting this request. Read on about how to have your voice heard.

The Think Tank model will be presented February 25 with only a 2 week window before the board is scheduled to vote on it on March 11. This is not enough time for residents to provide proper input on the plans. We have requested that the administration and board have a forum for all residents to attend, but have been met with resistance.

WE NEED AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE TO EMAIL THE BOARD TO REQUEST A COMMUNITY Q&A FORUM with them between February 25 and the vote on March 11. The Board needs to hear directly from the public so they can give appropriate consideration to our opinions before a vote is taken. The Board is under the impression that only ONE PARENT cares if there is a district-wide forum, and because of this the district has NO PLANS to hold one (reported in the Glen Ellyn News on 2/21). As of now, THE ONLY MEETINGS SCHEDULED after the proposal will be run by the principals at each school where BOARD MEMBERS WILL NOT HAVE A ROLE AND AREN’T REQUIRED TO ATTEND.

I would like to request that the Board of Education & core Think Tank administrators schedule a community Q&A forum after the final proposal is presented on Feb. 25 and before the Board votes on it. I believe that our questions and concerns as parents and D41 community members should be heard and responded to as one group with all Board members present in one meeting. Since the Board vote should reflect the community perspective as a whole, I believe this is an essential meeting, so that appropriate consideration can be given before any major change is voted on and/or implemented.

Although meetings have been scheduled with principals at each elementary school, they should not be a replacement for a community forum. And while the proposal may look different for each school, there will still be many comments, questions and concerns that will be common to the entire community. This is a proposal affecting our entire school district and the Board should hear the community as one voice.
