Fishing, Beekeeping, Painting, Dog Adoption: Weekend Roundup

From a painting party at Bottle & Bottega to Forest Preserve programs, there are number of event happening in and near Glen Ellyn.

FRIDAY, AUG. 16

Fishing for Bass: Check out some of the most effective bass lures on the market, and try them on one of the county’s best bass lakes. 5 – 7 p.m. at Sand Pond at Blackwell Forest Preserve in Warrenville on Butterfield Road one mile east of Route 59. Ages 12 and up; under 18 with an adult. Free. Registration begins Aug. 2. Call 630-933-7248.

Couples & BFF Painting Party: Designed for couples or friends, but open to anyone, this painting event allows each person to paint one part of a two panel painting, leaving with their own 16x20 canvas. Ticket price includes materials, instruction, aprons and the canvas. Social time starts at 6:30 p.m. and painting kicks off at 7. Cost is $35.

Beekeeping: How to Get Started: Celebrate National Honey Bee Day while learning about beekeeping equipment and the important role these insects play in our food supply. Then, ask the beekeepers your questions about honey and bees. Activities ongoing. Program from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Kline Creek Farm, 1N600 County Farm Road in West Chicago. All ages. Free. Blacksmithing Demonstrations: Stop by the wagon shed to see the blacksmith repair equipment and demonstrate the tools and techniques of the trade. Restoration-in-Progress Tours: Take a docent-guided tour through Mayslake Peabody Estate to learn about the past — and future — of this historic 1920s Tudor Revival-style mansion.
