Finance Meeting, Plant Sale, Garage Sale, Two-Woman Play: Weekend Round Up

FRIDAY, AUG. 9

Finance meeting: The Village of Glen Ellyn’s Finance Commission will be meeting at 7 a.m. Friday. The main item up for discussion on the agenda is the Roosevelt Road Tax Increment Financing (TIF) district.

FRIDAY and SATURDAY, AUG. 9, 10

Village Theatre Guild performance: The theater guild will be performing Mo Gaffney and Kathy Najimy’s play Parallel Lives. The two-women play will present 11 vignettes both incisive and reflective offering a glimpse into the lives of a variety of characters, both men and women.

SATURDAY, AUG. 10

Annual garage sale: The Raintree Neighborhood will hold its annual garage sale starting at 9 a.m. The subdivision is located near The Village Links golf course on South Park Boulevard between Roosevelt and Butterfield roads. The multi-family sale will include furniture, children's furnishings and toys, tools, housewares, appliances and more.

SUNDAY, AUG. 11

Plant sale: The Northern Illinois Hosta Society Auction and Plant Sale will be held in nearby Hinsdale. The auction starts at 1 p.m. but those who wish to bid should arrive early. Everything must go by 4 p.m. A variety of hostas and other plants will be sold.

Pastor ordained at First Congregational Church: Merlyn Lawrence, associate pastor at United Protestant Church (UPC) of Grayslake, will be ordained by the United Church of Christ at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 11 at First Congregational Church of Glen Ellyn, 535 Forest Ave., Glen Ellyn. Lawrence, of Wheaton, received her Master of Divinity degree from Chicago Theological Seminary. Lawrence has served the United Church of Christ in a variety of capacities.
