All About the Holidays; Nine Things to Do in Glen Ellyn This Weekend

It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas.

1. Retreat from the rush into Advent Quiet at First Presbyterian Church of Glen Ellyn, 550 N. Main St., from 7 to 8 p.m.

2 A Christmas tree purchased at the B.R. Ryall YMCA, 49 Deicke Drive, Glen Ellyn, provides financial assistance to families, children and individuals who need it most. Quality trees, wreaths and garland including Fraser Firs, Balsams and Scotch Pines all available daily through Christmas Eve.

3. Wintersong: Christmas with the Glen Ellyn-Wheaton Chorale will be held Friday and Saturday, Dec. 6 and 7, at College Church in Wheaton. Harp, oboe, flute, and percussion will round out the usual piano and organ complement, all set within the visual and acoustic beauty of College Church. Visit the Tickets page for details.

4. Coffee with the Cops from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Glen Ellyn Civic Center, 535 Duane St. Police chief hosts residents who would like to discuss neighborhood issues, seek information on various police programs and learn about police duties and responsibilities. 

5. Saturday Free Movie! Arthur Christmas, 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Glen Art Theatre, 530 Crescent, downtown Glen Ellyn. 

6. Home Sweet Home. Surprise the children with a gingerbread decorating event while helping mothers and children seeking a  future free from domestic violence. Sponsored by Family Shelter Service and the Southeast Community Resource Council; 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Abbington Distinctive Banquets in Glen Ellyn.

7. Homes for the Holidays - a Christmas House Walk to Benefit Young Life, 4 p.m. Sunday. 

8. Lucia: A Festival of Light, 5 p.m. Sunday at Glen Ellyn Covenant Church, 277 Hawthorne.

9. Six Church Choirs Combine to Present A Christmas Concert: Lessons and Carols, 5 p.m. Sunday at Saint Michael's Catholic Church, 310 South Wheaton Ave. Wheaton.
