Board Meetings, Blood Drive, Ice Cream Social, Wine & Cheese: Glen Ellyn Happenings

Here are some of the events taking place in Glen Ellyn and around the area this week.

Village holds board meeting: The Village of Glen Ellyn will hold its regular board meeting Aug. 12 at 7 p.m. in the Galligan Board Room at the Glen Ellyn Civic Center. Some of the items up for action are a motion to approve funding in the amount of $25,000 to various community groups for the FY 2013-14 Community Grant Program. In addition, a motion to approve an agreement with Engineering Resource Associates for computer modeling services related to increasing the peak discharge rate from Lake Ellyn, in the total not-to-exceed amount of $38,000 (including a 10-percent contingency), to be expensed to the Capital Projects Fund.

District 41 board to meet: The Glen Ellyn School District 41 Board of Education will meet on Aug. 12 at the Central Services Offices, 793 N. Main St., at 7:15 p.m. Among the items for discussion are the proposed Roosevelt Road TIF district, and planning for elementary school innovation labs. The superintendent will also recommend adoption of the 2013-14 budget.

District 87 holds board meeting: The Glenbard Township High School District 87 Board of Education will hold its regular meeting at 7 p.m. Aug. 12. Among the items for discussion are the Glen Ellyn TIF district, the tentative 2013-14 budget and policies and procedures.

Learn to meditate: Enjoy a free class and learn the basics of starting and benefits of having a regular meditation practice. The class will be held at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 13 at the Downers Grove Library.

Give blood: A blood drive will be held at Stacy’s Corners on Aug. 13 from noon to 6 p.m. A $5 Subway gift card will be given to each participating donor, compliments of LifeSource.

Ice cream and child care open house: The B.R. Ryall YMCA will hold an ice cream social and open house to introduce its child care services to interested families. The event is being held Aug. 13 at 6:30 p.m. Learn more by contacting the YMCA.

League hosts wine and cheese event: The Glen Ellyn League of Women Voters is hosting its annual summer wine and cheese get-together Aug. 15 at 7:30 p.m. The event will be held at the home of an undisclosed league member and Betsy Kinsey is the presenter.
