Maybe it should be called Headball

NFL ad: Canton, 1906, just a bunch of guys running around in a pile of mud

Mr. Subliminal: Players were battering into the opposing line with arms locked in a flying wedge, resulting in 37 deaths and 296 serious injuries among just a few thousand high school and college players in 1904 and 1905 

NFL ad: So they introduced a few rules just to keep the peace

Mr. Subliminal:High schools and colleges began cancelling football programs amid national outcry to stop the carnage
NFL ad: Suddenly we had a game on our hands

Mr. Subliminal: Teddy Roosevelt corralled top college presidents to White House meeting demanding football be made safe or abolished

NFL ad: We swore to protect this thing we couldn't be without 

Mr. Subliminal:We can't let a few thousand middle age guys with brains like scrambled eggs wreck a $10 billion a year gravy train 

NFL ad: So we'd have it forever

Mr. Subliminal: Another century, another crisis to stifle

One interesting idea came out today on preventing head injuries. Take off the helmit guards that protect the face. More broken noses, less head injuries.
