Student-Run Glen Ellyn Nonprofit Helps Local Animals

The nonprofit that works against cruelty to animals was founded in 2007 and is run by juniors and seniors at Glenbard West High School.

The Glen Ellyn-based student-run nonprofit Woofin and Hoofin has been operating since 2007 to work against cruelty to animals, and this year has raised more than $2,000 for DuPage County Animal Care and Control through fundraisers like last Sunday's fourth annual 5K at Newton Park, the Suburban Life reports.

According to the paper, the organization is run by juniors and seniors at Glenbard West High School and fundraises for causes like increasing DCACC's space to keep animals from being put down because of space concerns.

The group also appeared on Rachel Ray's TV show in 2011.

“The juniors see what the seniors have done, and they want to get involved themselves,” junior board member Mary Ladesic told the paper.

“This has just made me even more of an animal lover because I’ve seen how high school students are able to come together and just make a really big difference for the lives of animals."
