Glen Ellyn Park District Launches Adopt-a-Park Program

Participating volunteer groups will help to keep their neighborhood parks green and will have their own "park adopted by" signs.

The Glen Ellyn Park District is launching a new “adopt-a-park” program to encourage local groups and volunteers to help take care of the Village’s parks and green spaces, the Daily Herald reports

According to the paper, an adopting group will clean up trash, assist with renovations, landscaping and improvements, and monitor the park for hazards; the program is inspired by the efforts of neighbors to rehabilitate a playground at Manor Park, as well as by programs in Elmhurst and Downers Grove.

"Definitely during leaner times it helps," Park District Director Dave Harris told the paper. "You can't fulfill every goal you want. You can't have every park looking immaculate. This would really help ... but it also provides community pride, partnership and responsibility."
