Pihos Recognizes Former Glen Ellyn Police Officer

GLEN ELLYN, IL… State Representative Sandy Pihos recently recognized former Glen Ellyn Police Officer Ray Munch with the presentation of House Resolution 657, honoring Munch for his significant service to the people of Glen Ellyn.

Munch joined the Glen Ellyn Police Department in January of 2002 and was named Glen Ellyn Officer of the Year in 2004, just 2 years after joining the department. Munch resigned from the Glen Ellyn Police Department on August 29, 2013 due to injuries sustained in the line of duty.

“There are many reasons to honor this officer, but most importantly, Ray Munch always put the safety of the public first,” said Pihos. “Ray Munch was awarded The Spirit of Glen Ellyn Award and Officer of the Year for the second time in 2010 as part of a group who responded to a fire at Royal Glen Condominiums where he carried a woman with Muscular Dystrophy down 3 flights of stairs to safety.”

Pihos said the resolution honors not only that particular act, but the entire career of the honorable law enforcement professional.

“Officer Munch worked diligently on behalf of the people of Glen Ellyn throughout his entire career, whether he was talking suicidal subjects into surrendering themselves for treatment, becoming a CPR/AED trainer, using his AED to help people in distress, or participating in the seat belt enforcement program,” said Pihos.
