Power Outage May Leave Customers in the Dark Until Monday Night

Roughly 7,000 customers in the Western suburbs were still without power Sunday morning.

Some ComEd customers in the Western suburbs, including  those in , may not have power restored until Monday, according to a spokesman for the utility. 

The severe thunderstorm that rolled through Saturday night caused intense lightning and record-breaking winds of up to 80 mph in some areas, downing trees and power lines around the area, leaving 248,000 people without power at the peak of the outage, said Tony Hernandez, a ComEd spokesman. 

By Sunday morning ComEd crews had restored power to about 190,000 customers, leaving 50,000 still without service, Hernandez said. In the Western suburbs, which include Glen Ellyn, about 7,000 people were still without power Sunday morning.

“We are looking to the have vast majority of customers restored by Monday,” Hernandez said.

The ComEd outage map shows that some residents in Glen Ellyn may not have power restored until after 8 p.m. Monday.

The area hardest hit by the storm was in the south region, including the communities of Oak Lawn, Evergreen Park and Lansing, he said. Roughly 31,000 people were still without power in those areas Sunday.

More than 330 crews were deployed, including about 160 contractors, to help restore power, he said.

Residents were also reporting Comcast service interruptions in the area and contacted Glen Ellyn Patch through Facebook Sunday morning. Angelynne Amores, a communications director for Comcast said that any problems with service were most likely tied to the power outages.
