Labor Day weekend kicks off Friday night with taking the music to the street.
The second annual will be held Friday night, allowing residents to enjoy a summer evening, some food, beverages and music.
Sounds on the Street will close down Main Street between Duane Street and Hillside Avenue. Attendees can enjoy food from the restaurants on the block while listening to the music of iPOP, said Carol White, executive director of the Alliance of Downtown Glen Ellyn.
“It’s a great opportunity to walk into a restaurant you want to try, maybe to try something new,” she said.
Last year about 1,000 people attended and White said she is hopeful it is as good, if not better than last year.
The event was created as a way to drive revenue for the restaurants, White said.
Restaurants along the block that will be participating include: Tap House Grill, Santa Fe, flour + wine, Shannon’s, and Cab’s Wine Bar Bistro.
The event begins at 7 p.m. with the band taking the stage at 8 p.m. The music will continue to the events end at 10:30 p.m., White said.
Attendees who wish to drink alcohol during the event may have their ID checked to obtain a wristband. Some picnic tables will be set up along the street. People are welcome to bring their own fold-up chairs.
A soon to open business, School of Rock, is sponsoring the event, White said. School of Rock offers rock classes to kids and teens and is planning to open a location in Glen Ellyn’s downtown.
