Two More Victories for Our Hometown Teams

The Hilltoppers and the Raiders both bring home big wins Friday.

Glenbard West 20, Oak Park-River Forest 14

Glenbard West (5-1, 3-0) waged a tough battle Friday to hand Oak Park-River Forest High School its first loss of the season—and secure the Hilltoppers first place in the WSC Silver.

The Huskies (5-1, 3-1) came out strong, scoring on a 68-yard drive in the first quarter. But Glenbard West's Jermon Kindle-Joyner managed to score twice in the second quarter: on a 72-yard drive (but the extra point was no good) and on a 79-yard drive plus a 2-point conversion, making it 14-7 Hilltoppers.

Glenbard West's Scott Andrews ran in another TD (see the attached highlight clip), making it 20-7, but Oak Park tightened the gap to 20-14 in the fourth.

Then, the Huskies turned up the drama deep in Hilltopper territory with only a minute to play. But the Hilltoppers defense held them off. At 2nd down and 6, Huskey quarterback Lloyd Yates was sacked. At 3rd and 14, with 55 seconds to play, a Yates pass to Ryan Chancellor was dropped in the end zone. And, at 4th and 14 Yates attempted another pass into the end zone but the ball was tipped out of bounds by Hilltopper Hayden Carlson.

Here's the rest of Glenbard West's schedule; only three games are left in the regular season:

Glenbard South 49, Riverside Brookfield 14

It was about as lopsided a game as you can get: The undefeated Glenbard South Raiders just crushed the winless Riverside-Brookfield Bulldogs 49-14 Friday.

As the Daily Herald put it, this game was "over almost from the start" on Friday.

Six touchdowns in the first half pretty much guaranteed the win for the Raiders, who now have clinched a playoff berth.
