Glenbard West Football Player Chosen for 2012 All-American Bowl

Local soldiers will present the standout football player the honorary jersey for the 2012 bowl game.

football star Tommy Schutt will join the ranks of elite high school football players from all around the country.  

Each year only 90 high school football players are chosen to participate in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. This year Schutt is one of those 90 athletes and will head to San Antonio in January to participate in the prestigious game. 

"It’s pretty significant. Almost every NFL roster has several, if not more, Army All-Americans,” said Jake Ricker, bowl spokesperson.

Some of the nation's most notable football players were previously chosen for All-American bowl games including, Tim Tebow, Adrian Peterson and Ndamukong Suh. 

Before Saturday's playoff game at Duchon Field, local soldiers will present Schutt with the bowl jersey in front of family, friends and spectators. Players are chosen for being excellent athletes in addition to embodying values like loyalty and respect.

Coach Chad Hetlet will also be invited to San Antonio to watch Schutt play in the Jan. 7, 2012 bowl game. 

Earlier this season, Schutt to Penn State University, and is currently the top high school draft pick in Illinois, according to Rivals.com

The Hitters will face Mt. Prospect on Saturday at 1 p.m. for the first round of playoffs.
